Denim Therapy has found a great cause and partnered with Camp Move IT to donate jeans our customers don’t want repaired. Please see below letter from Brigid McGinn, Director of the Art and Fashion Departments
WOW! Two giant boxes sat on the porch of the Camp Move IT office. Is it possible they are a campers care packages?
Fearless leader of Camp Move IT, Jill Powell explained that actually they were a generous gift to all the Camp Move IT girls from Denim Therapy. “What’s denim? Jeans? Jeans with holes? Jeans that are WAY too big for us!”. What would a gaggle of girls at sleep away camp do with hundreds of pairs of old ripped jeans? Leave it to the awesome Inspirers at Camp Move IT to gleefully open those boxes in the camp’s House of Fashion and offer our amazed young fashionista’s a plethora of possibilities.
Once the girls realized that these jeans were for cutting up and transforming into innovative designs, their imaginations soared. They got to work sewing purses out of pockets, shoulder bags out of waistbands & shirts out of pants legs, complimenting their pieces with polka dots, muslin, plaid, and ruffles, even clover, wheat grass, maple leaves and bark from the woods outside, became embellishments on dresses, shirts and mini skirts. The most popular design was the ‘Butt to Bodice’ conception which highlighted the girls growing self confidence about their bodies with back pockets strategically placed over their breasts.
There was a rocking fashion show during each session and the girls strutted their recycled denim outfits with pride. When Camp Move IT had an outing to town for a show or ice cream there were always girls dressed up flaunting their designs on Main St.
Thank You Denim Therapy for your inspiring contribution to the creative lives of Camp Move IT girls.
With Great Appreciation from all the Campers & Inspirers
