First off, we just have to say that we LOVE the Artisan de Luxe Women’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection. This line has everything that we love about denim, like how easy it is to have it be the clothing that lets you really express who you are. There is no skinny jean in sight for this collection, and we don’t have a problem with that at all (we mean it, they are EVERYWHERE!). Instead they have boot cut and flared styles that are extra special thanks to simple whisker detailing and distressing. Our real favorites though have to be the high-waisted denim shorts with the leather fringe pocket and jewel applications around the waist. Coming in at a very close second though are the cut-off denim shorts that have a peace sign print down one leg–so cute and trendy without being over the top. One look at the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 ad campaign and there is no doubt that this is fine Italian fashion. The jeans are a classic blue wash with whisker detailing, and when paired with patent leather shoes, a blazer, and a vest, looking sharp is not an option, but a given. This ad makes guys want to be in these jeans and girls want to be wherever that motorcycle is headed to.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, avant-garde Milanese brand Ring brings us drop-crotch cropped jeans for the summer, as well as two-toned coated jeans which look a bit like denim cutoffs sewn together with another pair of jeans’ legs. Maybe it sounds odd, but to us the spring summer 2011 lookbook looks more like a rebellion against boring, everyday denim.
As progressive as Ring may be, the brand’s minimalist tailoring is quite wearable even for the less adventurous, thanks to the lack of distracting, superficial design. Ring’s Founder Selene Busatta launched Ring Milano in 2004, originally set out to rework classic pieces into avant-garde works of art that is open to interpretation, made individual through one’s own styling choices. We were, of course, also impressed with the men’s and women’s denim, which exhibits deep, three-dimensional whiskering, honeycombing and tasteful additions of “dirty” wash, which stretches the ideals of avant-garde fashion, often seen as zen and clean.

Founded only two years ago, Cult of Individuality is a denim line which recognizes the cult status of jeans and has already produced a milieu of them for our consumption. And, like its namesake brand, they have cut, sewn, bleached and distressed jeans for that denim follower who desires individual style when the change of mood strike. For Spring 2011, Cult of Individuality produced an expanded collection of jeans which range from established denim silhouettes to new signature fits (the Alter Ego Boyfriend, the Ex-Lover BF, etc).
