For all who prefer not to waste time fretting about what to wear… [BLANK NYC] denim provides your wardrobe staples. You can go from casual to chic instantaneously. They have a lot of denim to offer and their styles are hot- not to mention how affordable their jeans are! Denim Therapy had the opportunity to meet up with Blank NYC and ask them a few questions. Read on for an inside view.
DT: How did BLANKNYC denim get started?
BLANK: We’ve been shooting [blank]s since ’07! [BLANKNYC] was created to fill the void in the market for quality fashion at an affordable price. The same small team that started the line is still in place today working hard on continuing to fulfill the initial concept of the line.
DT: What is the inspiration for your collection?
BLANK: [BLANKNYC] is a fresh take on denim that combines innovative designs, quality fabrics, and superior fits without the premium price point. The designers’ unique personal styles, coupled with New York’s edgy downtown vibe and traditional design melded together to create [BLANKNYC]’s very first hit; the “studded skinnie classique” which helped catapult the brand into the denim market. [BLANKNYC] believes strongly in quality, fit, and the integrity of a premium jean, while maintaining a completely affordable price point.
DT: How do you keep your price point so low?
BLANK: Our design team works very closely with multiple fabric suppliers and factories to achieve this while always having the consumer in mind.
DT: What does the spring collection have in store for us?
BLANK: The spring 11 season combines unique silhouettes, innovative washes and luxe fabrications with utilitarian styling to create a collection that is fashion forward and affordable. Novel fits such as the slim bootcut, roll-up skinny capri, hi rise skinny & hi rise belle are introduced early in the season in an array of washes from clean & classic to light & distressed. As we move into the later Spring months, the collection continues to evolve with a focus on non-denim integrities such as Sateen, Linen and Tencel. These drapey fabrications are showcased on crop trousers, long shorts, relaxed straight legs, and drawstring pants.
While fabrics and fits run the gamut, a strong focus for Spring is on the evolution of the short. Whether seen with a fold over paper bag waist, ultra hi rise, roll-up & twisted hems, or raw edge cut off detailing, [BLANKNYC] has something for every fashionista’s style preference.
DT: Can you give us a preview into fall too? What denim trends do you for see?
BLANK: Back to back-pocket detailing, continuing with leather and vegan leather. Hi rise belles, super skinnies and everything in between!
DT: How has your company evolved over the past few years? Especially with the recent launch of your menswear?
BLANK: [BLANKNYC} is always evolving and trying new things in new categories while always trying to maintain the brands aesthetic. The new men’s line is A natural extension of the women’s line. Guys are always asking us for jeans in their size!
DT: What are some of your favorite denim styles? Any celebs that have worn your denim well?
BLANK: We love everything and anything to do with denim. You can really do no wrong when it comes to denim.
DT: How many pairs of jeans do you own?
BLANK: Hundreds and hundreds. I never throw out jeans. What is old will one day be new again.
DT: What kind of fits and washes do you offer?
BLANK: From light and ultra bleached and beat up to dark overdyed and saturated washes. We offer everything from a super skinny jegging to an ultra wide hi rise elephant belle. This season we are doing a lot of drop crotch, paperbag styles as well.
DT: Where did the name blank come from?
BLANK: We’ll never tell… ;]
