Not all beautiful things grow in the garden, but printed denim options are growing like wild-flowers. Okay, enough floral puns! We’re here to introduce 6 pairs of jeans that have nothing to do with floral print. They fall more into the families of polka-dots, pinstripes, and various interpretations of geometric-tribal. What they all have in common is, you can throw on a basic tee and you’ve got an outfit made.

We stopped by the Black Orchid Denim showroom yesterday to preview their latest, and were immediately drawn to the refreshing resort wear quality of their tropical and floral printed denim shorts. Visions of sailing on a summer afternoon in a breezy tank and a pair of these cut-offs completely took over, despite the slushy, snowy conditions right outside the window. We’d say that means these shorts achieved their desired impact! Scroll to grab a pair for yourself.

The Joe’s Jeans spring 2012 lookbooks for men and women are out, and it looks like a clean, casual look is in order. The women’s line is a bit more rock’n'roll with some ripped open knees and dangerously short hemlines. Even well-behaved silhouettes like the high-waisted dark wash skinny and fire-red flare-leg are oozing sex appeal. The men’s line plays it more safe, with preppy colors, nautical stripes, and some great basics knits.

Browsing lookbooks from designers the world over, from start-ups to established brands, a denim ensemble that we seriously love pops up now and again, resulting in a pressing need to pass on to you guys. While the brands don’t all specialize in denim, the inclusion of their quirky denim looks relay the versatility and universal appeal of our favorite textile. Below, five looks from five designers that will put a little spring into your warm-weather wardrobe.
An emerging design team (Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason) from London who specialize in combining modern technique with natural fabrics and applications. Beadwork and artistic bleaching/dying are common. We’re in love with this chambray cropped jacket from their latest resort collection.
2. EOTOTO (エオトト)
Known for an overload of tribal/ethnic prints and a tailored approach to free-spirited menswear, this Japanese brand released a spring 2012 collection with several denim pieces we’re coveting, most of all a denim patchwork shirt that stands out among its graphic counterparts.
3. NYGÅRDSANNA
The Swedish label responsible for this ethereal lookbook (which you can see more of here) is Anna Bengtsson. She creates her designs using natural materials and infuses a specific brand of Swedish culture into each look. She also plays with the balance of masculine and feminine elements in her designs. This utilitarian dress caught our eye because it is a perfect example of that balance.
4. Gorman
Australian brand Gorman produced this super-cute collection ripe with prints, colors, and feminine silhouettes includes a pair of light-wash jeans printed in oversize polka-dot.
5. 69
LA-based unisex brand 69 (pause here to reflect on the cleverness/audacity of the name) released a spring 2012 collection that utilizes large shapes and minimalist aesthetic (and lots of denim, which helps some of these more feminine pieces stay unisex, we think). Everything is made in LA.
Don’t forget to click through and learn more about each of these designers!
