Ziggy Denim Fall 2011 Lookbook

“You’re only as cool as the crew you hang with,” is denim brand Ziggy’s “tongue and cheek” motto for their Fall 2011 denim collectionZiggy denim pokes fun at the “cool kid” in us all, in this artful collaboration of brown paper bag masks and ultra cool denim looks. It features models lounging in vintage ’80s acid washed denim and “I love Ziggy” t-shirts. We love the rich burgundy hued pants paired with tan loafers.  The less-is-more approach gives this lookbook a sense of versatility and creative subtlety that translates to effortless cool. Affordable and chic, Ziggy denim shows us that we can all master the art of classic denim appeal without the cheesy trying-too-hard after taste.

Swedish Brand JC Jeans Spring 2011 Lookbook

Things are looking bright for Swedish brand JC Jeans & Clothes with the release of their fresh-looking spring 2011 lookbook. Aside from the fact that the models wear almost identical vacant expressions in each shot (which may be a poke at editorial modeling, but seems more likely a brand that missed the band wagon on the “models having fun” trend in lookbooks this season), the energy from the clean design and classic color combos has definitely caught our attention. We love the denim jacket over white sundress for girls and a denim shirt under loose-knit white sweater for guys. These are looks you could bring home to mom any day.

Les Halles Jeans Spring 2011 Lookbook

Les Halles was born of a couple’s creativity and denim design know-how back in the ’80s, and their re-launch in 2008 promises a new era for the next generation of the denim obsessed everywhere. Their spring 2011 lookbook is a careful, controlled (yet incredibly chic) example of how ’70s boho flare and clean, preppy styling can all meet somewhere in the middle with the right pair of jeans. With a solid family-foundation behind the design process (a family that designed for the likes of Guess and Jordache), Les Halles is definitely a line to watch, wear, and love.

Stay tuned for our exclusive Q&A with Les Halles Jeans, coming up next!

From Denmark, With Love: Han Kjobenhavn Denim

While browsing the wares at (capsule), we had a chat with the representatives of  Han Kjobenhavn (AKA: Han), a Copenhagen-born menswear brand that specializes in turning classic-cool into right-now-cool-with-classic-appeal. They were more than happy to let us rummage through their selection and get acquainted with the clothing..

Refining and reconstructing clothes from the 1950’s, our AW10 apparel collection has been made by the guiding principles which have been used for more than 100 years. –Han

As self-proclaimed blowers-off of the trend bandwagon, they stick to the classic design principles that have been applying seamlessly to denim construction and marketing since denim itself was born. Their clothing is functional and industrial while remaining ever-conscious to the modern market. Their newest lookbook features functional outerwear like the ’50s bomber jacket with indigo lining, lamb’s wool cardigans, hand sewn T’s, and denim treated with Han’s “exclusive fabrics and hand wash processes”. Three washes appear in the newest line, in a ’50s tapered classic fit, inspired by 1947 Japanese denim archives. And you know how much we love jeans with history!

Keep an eye on Han Kjobenhavn on facebook and at the Han Kjobenhavn official site.

GAP Goes Wide For SS2011

If you haven’t already seen the latest denim campaign on storefronts, the Spring Summer 2011 Campaign is in full bloom at Gap, and you might do a double-take for its position on trouser jeans.  Okay, you might also do a double-take for their spotlight on two models-in-demand Anja Rubik and Jac Jagaciak.  If you recall, Anja became the talk of San Francisco and made fashion headlines when Gap first debuted Anja as its newest It Girl in August 2009, and people haven’t stopped talking about her since.  We are really digging Gap’s trouser jeans (somewhat reminiscent of 7 For All Mankind’s Ginger wide leg), because of its higher rise (and slimming) silhouette, and the fitted thighs which gradually flare out to a wide leg jeans manages to avoid that dreaded “elephant leg” look.  Besides trouser jeans, Gap maintains its basic array of spring and summer-friendly skinny Boyfriend and cropped cuts for those who want to maintain that skinny jean look.

Meltin Pot Gets Saturated for Spring 2011 Lookbook

Bright colors, debonair hats, cuffed denim shorts paired with black dress shoes… this is the kind of menswear you don’t have to think twice about. It works on either coast, it has a hint of downtown-cool, and somehow even the khaki-colored cargo with a skinny-elastic hem doesn’t seem like it’s trying too hard. Meltin’ Pot‘s spring 2011 lookbook has successfully combined the best things about sportswear and come out on top.

We’ll be keeping an eye on them this year. See the full editorial here.

Style Mix: Chopper Jeans Spring 2011 Lookbook

The pastel pink background of the Chopper Jeans Spring 2011 lookbook is a nice compliment to the washed out tones in the collection, and we’re a sucker for candy pink—but the actual collection has us scratching our heads. The brand seems to want a bohemian edge, and that can certainly be found in more than one look, but there’s also a mod shift dress, skin-tight ’90s ensemble (a la Cindy Crawford), an early-2000’s cropped blazer/shorts combo, and then suddenly an urban hip-hop drop crotch pant. As not to hit a mark, there’s an of-the-moment pair of denim harem pants too.

There’s something for everyone, but that can be a real paradox when it comes to clothing branding and hooking a group of loyal customers who come to you for your brand’s unique DNA. See the full lookbook here.

The off-shoot of BAPE, designed by Toru Nishiyama, attempts to embody “American casual fashion through a modern filter”. The clothes are simple, clean, and easily mixed into your current wardrobe.
