SxSW is in full swing in Austin, TX, with bands like The Black Keys, Cat Power, and Zooey Deschanel‘s band She & Him rocking out in what’s sure to be a hot and crazy few days of live music and killer style. Jessica Alba was recently snapped wearing a RESIN Denim Kate Lanphear inspired denim jacket. Kate’s one lady worth styling yourself after, with a resume that includes Vogue Australia, Harper’s Bazaar, and most recently, US Elle. We love the layering Jessica does here with a faux-fur vest in the idea hue of grey to compliment this brilliant blue. The Maxi dress makes the whole look incredibly cozy and chic. Wondering what to wear this week? We’ve got a layered, pop-color denim look that will take you from work to sample sale hunting, out to dinner, and back again. Sequin Magazine blogger Merily Leis wears a neutral beige knit top over a longer black knit t-shirt, and bright red Zara jeans. She accessorizes according to the book with a leather carry-on bag, leather and metal cuff, and lined ankle booties. This looks is classic fall, and if you happen to find yourself at an impromptu dance party, you can take off that beige knit top, take the heels out of your bag, and cut a rug! If you’re looking for a pair of red jeans, we love these Joe’s Jeans skinnies in ruby red.

…of course one of the afformentioned elements is a killer pair of cut-off shorts. We spotted this lovely lady on the Facehunter‘s blog and decided to whip up a little how-to for those who want to acquire this vacation-esque look. Start with a pair of cut-off shorts that really fit you well. We love this super-dark wash (almost a faded black or navy). Pair with a neutral colored button-up top (extra points for a v-neck). Sleeves can be cuffed or feature a cute mini-blousson detail as seen below. Finish off the look with a bright white scarf—this is the point of the look! That shot of white will give you a just-got-off-the-beach vibe that may even rub off on your mood (even on a Monday).
