If you were to break down what denim must-haves to acquire for your closet, where would you start? We went by our favorite denim staples for any man, for every occasion this spring, and pulled out several solid pieces that can be worn and loved for many seasons: (1) the denim jacket, (2) the denim shirt, and the various cuts of jeans that are fashion director approved: (3) the slim fit jean, (4) the straight leg and (5) a men’s skinny jean. The next question is, can you choose just one?

Spring can be slightly unpredictable, what with freak rain storms and days of blissful sun. For those who refuse to lug around their over-sized coats, consider the denim jacket as your new spring fashion staple item. Now re-fashioned in every desirable fabric weight available to the average gentleman, you can be just as dressy or paired down as you like. Take a look at some new fabrications of the jeans jacket: everything from the classic to country-club acceptable. Yes, even colored denim options are brought back from years past, with a fresh point of view in structure and tailoring.

Rawr Denim posted up a beginner’s guide to raw denim for women, including some brands to start you off, where to buy them, and a quick explanation on why it’s so hard to find women’s selvedge jeans:
“Many brands from all over the world now produce raw jeans specifically for women. Only a few of those jeans are made from selvedge denim, though. Men’s jeans are cut with a straight outseam, whereas women’s jeans are typically cut with a curve so as to provide a better fit. This makes it hard to cut women’s jeans along the straight edge and keep the selvedge.”

Naked & Famous‘ Mens Spring/Summer 2012 line is sticking to its roots with authentic, top-quality, raw denim, but while increasing the options you have to get your hands on it. They have taken their skinny, mid-rise, and tapered cuts and released them in new colors such as red and wine, constructions, and surfaces. So now you can really find the pair of jeans that is best and most comfortable for your body, and still know that you’re wearing some of the most rare and unique denim, straight from Japan. What we’re really jealous of are the raspberry scented low-rise jeans—we mean, amazing denim that smells amazing too? Yes please. Besides the colored denim, they also are offering slim-fitted button downs to patch their red denim palette, along with a crisp, dark-wash jean jacket which is a definite must-have if your guy still hasn’t caught on to this classic trend yet.

1. Despite the drama surrounding boy wonder Justin Bieber as of late, he seems to be keeping it cool in terms of attire. He was spotted in an Acne denim jacket recently that we think makes him look (slightly) more grown up.
2. James Franco is slated to shoot and direct the next 7 For All Mankind campaign, which would make him… the most accomplished sexy young man in Hollywood? Yeah, we think that sounds about right.
3. We love a well-placed back pocket detail on men’s jeans. It’s easy to go wrong with pockets, but the white stripes on this pair of Momotaro medium wash jeans is spot-on.
4.We’re all fawning over this review of the Mih Jeans Marrakesh Kick Flares in black velvet in the office this morning. These look like some seriously comfy (and stylish) fall jeans.
5. Naked & Famous guru Brandon Svarc visits the GQ fashion closet and talks about the craziest jeans he’s designed so far. Glow in the dark, anyone?
