A Peek Inside Levi’s Eureka Innovation Lab

Take a peek inside Levi’s Eureka Innovation Lab  (aka: where the magic happens) in a recent issue of Jean Stories, wherein Jonathan Cheung, SVP of global design, gives a VIP tour.

“You may not have heard of Levi’s Eureka Innovation Lab – but if you love jeans, you should know about it. From the outside, it’s an unassuming brick building in San Francisco’s Embarcadero. On the inside, though, magic happens. Here, the prototypes for new denim developments that shape not just the Levi’s we live in, but the entire industry – from washes, to treatments, to advances in sustainability – are made.” (See more)

Steve Jobs was an innovator and creative genius to many who now are likely reading this blog face down into the iPhone or iPad. He liked his devices clean and simple, just like his wardrobe. Black turtle neck, New Balance sneakers and Levi’s jeans were his trademark workwear. But, just how much did he love his jeans? PR Daily reported Jobs owned over 100 pairs of Levi’s blue jeans. Now that’s a denim lover.

Levi’s goes Water-Less

Sometimes less is more especially when we are talking about saving water and energy. Levi’s has managed to do just that with their launch of the Water<Less denim collection. Our all American brand is at the very forefront of the future. Most jeans are washed in industrial washing machines between three to ten times during the finishing process–and that adds up.

top-10-levis-water-less-jeans1

Don’t worry about the manufacturing because you are still getting the same kind of Levi that they always offered, just in a brand new way. Instead they are using simple fixes–combining multiple wet washing machine cycle processes into a single wet process, incorporating ozone processing into garment washing, removing water from the stone wash–to cut down on water consumption by an average of 28% in the Water<Less line. Some jeans have cut water use by 96%.

cdfc301759levis21

Levi’s first collection of Water<Less products, which includes over a dozen styles (Levi’s 501, 511, and 514 jeans among them- all of our favorites), will be released this month (January 2011) and start at $68 for the cheapest pair. By Spring 2011, Levi’s will have over 1.5 million Water<Less jeans for sale, saving a total of 16 million gallons of water. The goal is to apply such innovative thinking to other aspects of Levi’s production process. Four laundries in total were used to create the Water<Less collection and the brand will introduce these finishing techniques to more of their supplier factories around the world–which include hundreds of factories. Just think of how much H2O we can save if we all work together!

Saving the planet makes us feel great and its even better that you can still wear your good old blues- so get on with the trend and keep it going indefinitely. Visit workshops.levi.com for fun and free interactive events where you can learn more about Water<Less.

Club Monaco introduces Levi’s 501 Jeans

Source: Club Monaco website

Club Monaco Introduces an American Classic: Levi??™s 501s.

This season Club Monaco is pleased to introduce this iconic denim style for both men and women.

The Levi??™s 501s for men will be offered in both shrink-to-fit and pre-shrunk styles. The shrink-to-fit style is designed to create a snug personal fit. The best method for achieving this is by submerging them in hot water for about 20 minutes and then putting them on while still damp to let them mold to your body. Both styles feature a button fly and straight leg classic cut.

For her, we are offering the Levi??™s 501s boyfriend jean. This must have style fits slouchy like a pair borrowed straight from your boyfriend??™s closet. Featuring button fly and straight leg cut, we love this update to one of our favorite classic styles.
