At the Kitson store on Roberston Blvd. in Los Angeles there is a new window display showcasing all the fun that is the Bleulab reversible jean–what seems to really be the start of a denim revolution!. These jeans come in a variety of cuts and colors, and the best part is you’re pretty much buying two pairs of jeans for the price of one thanks to their innovative design. We don’t know about you guys, but when we’re getting great-fitting, quality denim for such an awesome deal, we just can’t say no! In this edition of Denim Therapy‘s Window Shopper, we take you on a denim smorgasbord on Los Angeles’ Robertson Boulevard, where celebrities, trend-conscious shoppers and hungry paparazzi frequent. Why Robertson? Have you seen the stores on that street? Besides playing host to Lisa Kline and three Kitson boutiques, you can shop at several premium denim brands within one city block without having to stop off at the nearest Starbucks. Denim-driven brands like AllSaints, Paige, 7 For All Mankind, Gap 1969 and True Religion can literally be found within one block. This does not include Intermix, Kitson and Madison, boutiques which carry a fantastic array of designer jeans for men and women in stock all within walking distance. And we say, walking distance in L.A. terms.

It seems that whenever there’s a major denim event on the west coast designer Michelle Siwy of Siwy Denim has something to do with it. Now, of course that comes to no surprise, after all her designs are a must-have for style icons like Kate Moss. We had the chance to catch up with Michelle at trendy fashion spot Kitson on Melrose where she was helping customers find the perfect pair of jeans and giving them some killer style advice, and we got to have a quick style chat with her too! Here’s an exclusive look into this denim designer’s personal style.
Denim Therapy: First things first, what do you think it is about denim that makes people love it and want to wear it as much as they do?
Michelle Siwy: I think it’s because it has a stylish yet subtle edge that every girl wants—and the fit and the construction has a lot to do with it, too.
DT: Whats your go-to item of clothing that you always wear with your denim?
Michelle: Definitely a blazer in different styles from cropped to oversized, especially with shorts…it’s the perfect thing to refine things a little.
DT: Do you have any styling rituals when you’re picking out your outfit for the day or an event?
Michelle: I actually start with the jewelry and then that kind of determines the wash and the style of what I’m going to wear. Like, if I’m wearing rhinestones I’ll pair it with something that’s light-washed and distressed—that sort of thing.
DT: What’s your number one denim styling tip/secret?
Michelle: Always try a size smaller and a size bigger than you think you are. Don’t get stuck on “I’m this size.” Dress to what’s going to fit just right, you know?
DT: Definitely! What would you say is the key to always having perfect denim looks and great style?
Michelle: Keep things timeless and classic.
