No surprise, but John Hughes movies remain our pop culture comfort food. A little bit of teen angst, a little bit of romance–it’s the perfect pick-me-up or sob-along-with. Naturally, we love The Breakfast Club. In honor of the classic ’80s flick, here are updated versions of the outfits worn by the three main male characters. Bender’s rebellious look–plaid shirt and fingerless leather gloves–is still timeless, while jock Andrew’s varsity jacket is totally on-trend for this season. We even took studious Brian’s “my mom picked out my outfit” look and made it a little more chill with khaki jeans and bold blue high-tops.

Walking through PROJECT NY is like sensory overload–the floors are stuffed to the brim with rows and rows of apparel and accessories. We walked through the entire showroom (yes, it took a while), and picked out five denim jackets for men that caught our eye. Check them out below!
Kuro Denim – Like everything from this company, this jean jacket was made entirely in Japan and oozes handcrafted vibes, from their strategic distressing to their stitched trademark–totally made to wear and be worn in.
Marshall Artist – Inspired by M-1965 field jackets worn by US troops, this jacket harkens military style, but with a twist– waterproof cotton chambray. Definitely a new (all-weather) use for a denim jacket!
Adidas Originals – This sporty Adidas windbreaker jacket is made from lightweight denim, excellent for layering while keeping out the cold.
Just A Cheap Shirt – We love how this jacket channels collegiate cool with a varsity jacket made from black distressed denim, coupled with yellow-tinted leather sleeves and accents.
Rivet De Cru Jeans – The classic denim jacket is a classic for a reason: it’s a style that goes the distance. Rivet De Cru’s incarnation comes with “secret” pockets and Western-inspired stitching for a fun twist on the traditional.

Italian label Replay is known for its casual, subtly sexy womenswear–and their latest collection does not disappoint! The brand’s full spring/summer 2012 lookbook not only encompasses a wide variety of denim pieces, ranging from metallic jeans and jumpsuits to miniskirts and military-style jean jackets, but can also carry you through casual day wear to work-appropriate attire to “look at me!” nighttime looks. We love the little touches, like the accent of pale blue denim patches on white jeans, and the attention to different rinses. In fact, we’re still going gaga over the perfect tea-stained shade of a pair of cuffed jeans…it sure ain’t run-of-the-mill.

Odyn Vovk reveals his 2012 Spring/Summer Collection in a short fashion film. The denim vest, jean jacket, and jeans function as staple pieces for the man featured in the film, yet still manage to be unique due to distinctive collars, buttons, and light washes. The man in the film is going somewhere, and though he may not know where, he’s got the durable clothing to stick with him for the long run. You may not be going soul searching anytime soon, but these denim favorites are great pieces to have no matter where you’re headed.

If you’re a music lover in the NYC area, hopefully you got the chance to attend the first ever Governor’s Ball, which went down at Governor’s Island on June 18th. The all-day dance party took place under clear skies, but non-stop motion and exciting fashion raised the temp by the hour. Festival goers had one thing in mind aside from being photographed in their element—and that’s comfort. It’s no secret that denim’s durability and easy-to-wear reputation played a part in becoming the style choice of the day, aside from denim’s close connection to music. The stylish crowd and performers alike sported colored denim cut-off shorts, skinny jeans, denim jackets, high-waisted shorts… summer basics we can all agree on. The presence of denim was alive and well.

Denim trends cycle in and out fast (although they always seem to repeat themselves). But it seems that jean jackets are the one form that never fades away. A jean jacket is the most dependable denim staple that is almost always fashionable even when they are out of fashion. Kim Kardashian is certainly no stranger to the look. She is seen wearing a Bebe Open Knit Maxi, Fendi Peekaboo Leather Tote, Dita Condor Sunglasses, Sam Edelman Gigi Sandal, and TEXTILE Elizabeth and James Sid Denim Jacket. We love the jean jacket over a dress style for every summer day outing; Black tie affairs included.

To say we love the use of color in J.Crew’s Fall 2011 lookbook would be a hilarious understatement. We’re enamored with the mustard yellows, magentas, and cyans in a way that makes us (for a fleeting second) wish Fall would come for a week before summer really gets going. There’s even a pair of lilac slacks. To make matters more exciting? Glimpses of dark-wash cuffed denim peeking out from outfits with more muted hues. Khaki, camel, and beige are seamless matches for deep and medium blue wash denim jackets and desaturated jeans, topped off with fedoras and wispy, autumn hair. How romantic!
