Denim Looks We Love From 3 Spring 2012 Collections

We found a few Japanese fashion labels that seem to share their own idea of what spring and summer should be about.  And boy, are the perspectives different!  First, Christian Dada suggests writing poetry and spending late nights out with your punk attitude in check, and don’t mind the occasional snags caused by your spiked denim jacket.  On a lighter note, Labrat reminds us of California summers out by Venice Beach where Hipsters and Hippies both hang in their vintage jeans and cut-offs; and finally, Revionnet wants us to think of simpler times while sporting “little girl dresses” or relaxed denim shirts made completely in denim.  We sense Alexa Chung may have played a role as a muse in the girly feel of this collection.

Denim looks we love from 3 different SS2012 fashion labels.

Moussy Brings Japan’s Fierce Fashion To NYC’s Meatpacking District

As you guys know, we’ve been super excited for Moussy’s stateside launch, and dropped by the opening party at the epic Meatpacking District pop-up shop (which will exist only until Black Friday for shopping, after which permanent location discussions will ensue) to check out the line and celebrate in October. The shop looks more like a club than a retail location, but when you moved aside the hors d’oeuvres (we lost count of how many cranberry sauce meatballs we scarfed down after 25), the DJ, the live band, and the party-goers, it was all about the clothes. A pure rock’n'roll badass aesthetic, featuring tailored blazers, biker jackets, acid wash denim, and faux-fur.

And FYI, Moussy is also running a MOUSSYGIRL Snapshot contest through November 21st which awards $100 to shop the store to girls who bring the best Moussy style to the camera (you can get your snapshot taken at the store to enter, and then have friends “like” your photo with wild abandon to increase your chances of winning). The first two winners are below!

Stay tuned! In a few days we’re going to take you inside the Moussy NY shop and walk you through the collection so you can see what all the buzz is about, up close.

Street Style: What The Denim Heads Are Wearing In Tokyo

Tokyo has been recognized internationally as the capital of off-kilter fashion for many years now, from the first FRUiTs book to the (sometimes awkward) glorification of Harajuku by Gwen Stefani and an explosion of subcultures centered around different genres of dress. While many styles that Tokyo-dwellers adore didn’t originate in Japan, no one seems to take trends and outfit calculation quite as far as they do. And for that, we love ‘em. Here’s a round-up of denim-infused outfits we find inspiring, exciting, or otherwise worth a look from Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya.

We’re Getting Revved Up For Japanese Brand Moussy’s State Side Launch

Okay, seriously—we’re huge Moussy fans. We’ve been following this Japanese sportswear brand remotely since 2004, having catalogues sent by our Japan-dwelling comrades so we could follow their fit-for-rockstars line of denim and separates. So imagine our excitement to learn that this brand is making its move to the US, and after their kick-ass FNO event, have already begun to make waves! Their Fall 2011 campaign features Abbey Lee Kershaw and a denim x fur combo we adore. Check out the exclusive video belowand don’t forget to Like Moussy NY on facebook!

Street Style: Denim Workshirt & Suspenders From Harajuku

We’re all over this Japanese interpretation of the workshirt & suspenders trend from Harajuku Japan, featuring a medium-blue saturated denim top with unique snap-collar and zipper detail. High contrast comes in droves with this styling dude’s navy & white striped top and thick black glasses. His jeans are cropped by hiked-up white socks, paired with leather moccasin shoes. While the socks are something that might not quite catch on, we’re all about this look from the ankles up.

Glamb Summer 2011 Lookbook: Menswear With Bonafide Japanese Street Cred

Japanese menswear label Glamb never ceases to completely blow us away with it’s always eclectic and laid back style. Think vintage nomad with a rebellious street edge true to the scene that is Japanese street style. Consisting of unique pieces that could very well have been taken straight out of a vintage shop the label’s Summer 2011 lookbook has everything from worn-in patchwork jeans to psychedelic geometric graphic t-shirts designed to emulate a tie-dye effect (totally 90s), and even a denim kimono! Overall, everything you need for a killer summer look with some serious street style cred.  Bold? Yes. Awesome? Definitely!
