Ethnic and tribal-inspired prints are at the forefront of what’s in right now. From Mayan and Incan to Aztec and Navajo (sometimes even a cool hybrid of all of them) there’s totally something for everyone. We know things can get a bit tricky when it comes to prints, so we’ve put together a couple of looks to give you some outfit direction. The key is to take one bold statement piece and style it with simple and updated basics like cropped tees and a good dose of denim for a bit of cool edge. Keep things fully on-trend by throwing in some western bits into the mix like a cool modern boot and accessories with an earthy bohemian flare.

You know, one thing still on our summer to-do list is going on a spur of the moment road trip—windows down, tunes on blast, and looking casual-cool in our favorite denim get ups (obviously). This editorial out of the pages of H&M Magazine’s Summer 2011 issue shot by Daniel Jackson has definitely got our inspiration going with its perfect bold print-on-print and denim combos. Florals and animal print topped with a denim vest? Uh, yes please! All that’s left is a pair of oversized sunnies, a killer swim suit, and a pair of denim overalls (for easy wardrobe changes) and we’re set. Alright, who’s coming?

Blogger and fashionista Sietske L, shows off her love for simple denim and pastels, In a recent Lookbook entry that caught our eye. Sietske poses for the camera, in a soft canary yellow tank top by H&M and a off-white blazer paired with light washed denim shorts, both by the likes of Zara. We love the entire color scheme of the outfit—it really brightens up the day! The denim shorts give the outfit a casual feel while the blazer dresses it up a bit more. Sietske offsets the outfit with a chic arm cuff, neon nail polish, and simple oxfords. The lesson here? Sometimes less is more.

Earlier in the summer we told you all about our love for H&M’s metallic-coated denim shorts (flashback here) and thanks to Katherine from Cracow, we now have no doubts that this trend will follow us into fall a la metallic-coated denim pants. By rocking these H& M gold-coated jeans with a sophisticated black blazer, she shows how gold is for so much more than just jewelry this season. If you want a funky yet polished look this fall, metallic-coated denim is just what the fashion gods ordered and we are we’ll be the first to say it: Amen!

A man in uniform is not one that gets easily overlooked, and blogger Chad from Paris knows that neither do these red hot H&M denim jeans. Combined with a military inspired jacket, leather bracelets, and this style is sure to be an eye-catcher in all around the world. Keep in mind that in order to rock this look you do not need to (AKA please don’t) stand in any of these poses, as a more au natural stance is a classic and bit more lovable look.

Here’s a little tip that came to us while we were hitting up the weekend tag-sales on Sunday… pair your light-wash denim (preferably something with seamed, tailored look, like this H&M high-waisted denim skirt), with vintage jewelry! Whether you employ painted wooden beads in vibrant hues or an epic emblem brooch with costume-stones, this contrast of casual and opulent will add some serious punch to your summer style. To find both of these items, check out local thrift shops and tag sales in your area. You’re bound to find some once-loved pieces to call your own.

Strolling through midtown one afternoon we happened across a big ol’s ale at H&M on the corner of 34th Street and 7th Ave, and ducked in to see if there were any cute summer items to be had. It turns out there were too many, and after some thrilling fast-fashion fishing, we walked towards the door. That’s when we saw this table full of metallic-coated denim shorts (priced at $34.95). Both bronze and silver were available, with matching metal button closures. We’ll be back to try ‘em on, but for now, here’s a peek !

Sometimes simple is the best way to go, and as the temperature rises, we’re thinking less about styling in layers and more about how little we can possibly wear this summer. Monika W. has the right idea, keeping it classy and cool with Naf Naf denim shorts and a x-eyed H&M black tanktop. Supporting accessories include a vintage “granny bag” and gladiator sandals (which live on in humble form in comparison to the theatrical counterparts they burst on the scene with a few years ago). A few barcelets and a simple, chic hair-cut make this summer ensemble a winner.
