Ladies and gents, MC has a new favorite pair of jeans. The latest offerings from Williamsburg Garment Company—remember when Renee reviewed their skinny jeans as a day-to-night staple?—include a medium-wash stretch denim high-waisted skinny for women. These jeans get the high score for holding flawless shape a full day of flea market prowling and a full night of dancing. They also possess the eternally sought-after slimming effect and cool details for denim-geeks to gawk at.

What was your first thought when you tried them on?
It was “Yesssss. Come to mama.” I also noticed the well proportioned back pockets (pocket size can really wreak havoc on a gal’s attempts to appear slimmer) and the cool side pocket stitching detail when I looked in the mirror. I love subtle design points that set a pair of jeans apart.
Where/when would you wear these?
I wore them to the flea market and strolling around Brooklyn, to brunch, to an insane all night dance party… no stretch or sag in the fabric. They looked and felt great. I’d wear these anywhere. I expect to get a lot of miles out of them this spring.
How’s the fit?
Love the high-rise, love the tight fit around the hips/behind, and knees. They have enough stretch for comfort but they still feel like denim, which is rare with women’s jeans. Too often it’s a free-for-all spandex blend jegging party. It’s hard to find the right balance. Aside from the feel of the fit, I was told they look great but friends and strangers while wearing them, so that probably counts for something.

de Chemin Jeans is new on the scene, but their philosophy stems from a problem women have had since the beginning of skin-tight garments: making their butts look better. Whether you’re aiming for more lift, smaller size, or any other magic transformation, this brand says they have what it takes.
“Born from the son of ’70s label Chemin de Fer, the collection is engineered to enhance the appearance of your bottom. Each pair is constructed employing more than twelve pattern pieces of engineered stretch fabrication. On the back of the jeans, there are strategically placed reverse yokes. The waistband is sculpted to frame your shape, and the detailing on the hips is inspired by aeyodynamic design to lengthen the legs.”

We’re intrigued further by their vintage style lines and high-waisted options… so intrigued that we’re going to try on a pair next week and let you know what we think.

Raleigh Denim is the hot topic of conversation in the denim industry, fresh off the launch of their first downtown NYC denim boutique and a gorgeous spring 2013 presentation. While the buzz of having an in-house ferris wheel and insane interior architecture is keeping them on the tongues of every denim-lover in town, there’s also a matter of amazing new styles we can’t wait to get our hands on. A spectrum of dark-wash high waisted jeans and jean shorts for women are imminent. Some styles are softer and more romantic, while others are as crisp as can be.
Stay tuned for photos from the Raleigh Denim NYC store opening party & more from their SS13 line.

We were just as excited as anyone for Nasty Gal’s new denim line, but upon closer examination it seems their newest release of LA-made high-rise skinny jeans for chics is kind of… well, Nasty. At least, not very flattering on the model they casted for the shoot. Aside from the Kink High-Rise in Glacier (which sold out quickly after the line launched), the fit looks awkward and the 3-D whiskering around the hips looks like potential for excessive bagginess after one day of wear. As for the yellow skinny, it looks like the model was dipped in a vat of yellow wax and dried upside-down.
We can’t bring ourselves to spring the 80-something bucks to test a pair of these, so if you or someone you know has experienced the fit and feel first-hand, send them our way! We’d like to ask them a few Q’s.

Recently, Denim Therapy asked Raven Denim Creative Director Yael Torbati about what she thought were some perfect denim fits this summer. ”We are super into mid-rise and high waisted jeans…they hold that belly in, show off your waistline, and seam to just be universally flattering! We’ve all seen the pairing of high waists with crop tops but for a look that’s extra sleek and sophisticated, I suggest wearing it with a one-piece swimsuit or a unitard. This creates a sleek line, with no messy “untucking”. Also, many high waisted styles have really cute detailing at the waistline (since it’s often a focal point) so wearing a one piece is the best way to show it off.
You can shop the Raven Denim Orly jeans (pictured above), and pair it with our suggestions below!

When you hear the term “mom jeans,” we’re betting your initial reaction is something along the lines of a guttural, “Ugh.” But does it have to be? Spanish style blogger Laura took her vintage mom jeans and made them look not-so-unflattering with a sheer, tropical shirt, wedges, and BAMF sunglasses. Some people can definitely pull off this look, but we’re not sold that it’s for everyone. So let’s revisit the question: mom jeans—yeah or nay?
