Multi-tasking recording artist Seal spent some time kicking a soccer ball around with a camera strapped to his back recently in a pair of loose-fitting G-Star jeans. We love seeing the potential for athletic movement in jeans like this. He was taking his kids to soccer practice (which explains the camera) and got some of his own practice in! The jeans are slightly distressed and roomy enough to run around in, without being too loose or baggy. Take note, fellas.

G-Star Raw presented a utilitarian-chic lineup of men’s and women’s denim for their FW13 showing here in Vegas, following up on an intense FW13 runway show earlier this season. Their new campaign, The Art of Raw, exemplifies the boundless possibilities of a lifestyle carved from raw denim, weaving elements of military style, formal wear, and streetwear into a new kind of “uniform”. The art can be found in clean lines, denim treatments, the pairing of materials (ie: denim and leather)… all through a very fresh and updated lens. We selected our favorite pieces from the line below.

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re big fans of the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), plus one more–repair! Denim Therapy can help you extend the life of your jeans, but if you’re looking to buy some eco-friendly denim, we’ve also got you covered. Here are six awesome brands doing their best to help the environment:
M2F
With colored denim being such a big hit this season, it’s especially cool that M2F created a dye bath that uses 50% less energy and water than traditional methods, while also eliminating commonly used toxic materials. Plus, their Made2Fade Technology Yarn is certified by the Swedish OEKO-TEX lab to be free of any harmful substances.

G-Star RAW Sustainable
G-Star RAW Sustainable collection is not only made entirely out of organic cotton, which minimizes the use of harsh-on-Mother-Nature pesticides and other pollutants, G-Star also touts various sustainable operations practices, like reducing energy use and only using transportation companies that meet certain environmental standards.
Navy Shirt | Navy Pencil Skirt
Nudie Jeans
For spring/summer 2012, Nudie Jeans produced 43% of its garments from organic cotton, with the longer-term goal to amp that number up to 100%. As part of their larger efforts to reduce waste, their Post Recycle Dry program takes old Nudie jeans and makes them into new, limited edition pairs.
Thin Finn Organic Jeans | Grim Tim Organic Blue Fade Jeans
Levi’s Water<Less Jeans
Making jeans is a water-intensive process, and a lot of the environmental cost of production comes from water. Often, jeans are washed multiple times before we take ‘em home, but the Levi’s Water<Less Jeans finishing process uses up to 96% less water than usual. 172 million liters of water (and counting!) have been saved so far.

Edun
Perhaps you know Edun best in relation to its founders Ali Hewson and Bono, but the ethical clothing line isn’t simply a celeb pet project. The company focuses on fair wage and labor practices, and uses organic cotton to produce their line.
Indigo Denim Jacket | Denim Flares
Kuyichi
With jeans made from organic cotton, hemp, recycled wool, and more, Kuyichi prides itself in using eco-friendly and recycled fabrics, including natural dyes. Their full list of sustainable materials used is pretty informative as well, if you pride yourself in knowing the benefits of the alternative fabrics used.

One of our guilty pleasures, Lana Del Rey, was seen leaving the Radio One Live Lounge in West London on April 11. She wore the G-Star 3301 Straight in Medium Aged with a sports jacket. We love that she goes from cocktail dresses to jeans so easily. We guess that’s why she calls herself “gangsta Nancy Sinatra”.

In stores now: the G-Star Correct Line Spring-Summer 2012 collection features a mix of casual denim staples and sophisticated lightweight separates. This is G-Star’s more tailored line which expands beyond its progressive raw denim and streetwear collection. Paying attention to construction, or deconstruction, rather, their Cruise Deconstructed Blazer ($280) and Baseball King Bomber jacket (constructed of 70/30 cotton-linen body; 100% leather sleeves, $230) will be a great daily backup for that elevated casual look you’re seeking. And, as introduced, the Courier Arc 3D jean ($180) will serve as your starting point. The range includes a crafted selection of twill shirts and refined knits—all in seasonless hues. 1. Last weekend, Raf Simons presented his final collection at Milan Fashion Week as Creative Director for Jil Sander, because the founder of the brand is returning. The womenswear is gorgeous, by the way. Perhaps Simons will go back to further developing his namesake denim? Fingers crossed.
2. On February 21, G-Star RAW opened their largest global flagship store in the world, a 7,319 square feet brick-and-mortar store in Hong Kong. The event was marked by stuntmen walking down the building and a traditional lion dance, with indigo blue lions. Watch the G-Star grand opening event online.
