Our blog editor Michelle Christina took a new pair of Divine Rights of Denim gray floral skinny jeans for a test run. MC styled her jeans with a bright blue vintage denim work shirt, faded peach H&M knit top, and a gold snake bracelet. The 74% cotton, 24% polyester, 2% spandex skinnies have plenty of stretch and seem to mold to everything from a classic New Yorker power walk to a quick climb out the kitchen window for some spring evening air. While the fit is flexible, they don’t hold figure like a tougher pair of jeans, and the fiber gives both where it counts and where you’d rather it did a little shaping.

Photos by nightlifebaby.net.
“The super-flexible fabric is also a bit thin as you can tell from the photo. The first try-on was more like a pair of tights than jeans. That’s a hint that these probably won’t go more than six months without a rip. The overall verdict? A great pair of jeans that may not stand up to the wear and tear of a city-dweller on the run for too long, but it’s enough bang for a fast fashion buck.”

This morning we take a look at denim through the eyes of jean-lover Jerrica Navarro, an aspiring actress and fashion blogger born and raised in New York City. Jerrica says her playful, chic style reflects her down-to-earth personality and urban sensibility. We had her send some snaps of her favorite outfits, like the denim short jumpsuit, high-waisted skirt & jacket paired with a deep v-neck and leather belt, and classic white t-shirt & flare leg jeans combo. Check it out below.
“I have a love hate relationship with denim. It seems as though there are a million options to try but very few meet my needs (kinda like men). When I finally find that one fantastic pair of jeans I usually live in them, and pretty much suck the life out of them. Some of my favorites are from BDG, Forever 21, Abercrombie and Fitch, Club Monaco the Gap, Topshop, and some cool stuff I find while thrift shopping. I loath the word jeggings but love denim with extra stretch (I’m aways on the move, so I need it).”

Cameran Diaz in 7 For All Mankind

Kate Beckinsale in Dylan George
Don’t we all wish that we could toss out the phrase “recession proof” from our fashion vocabulary? Well, I would say that it would be prudent to think otherwise. Be a little green, recycle a beloved pair of jeans and reinvent your look with this summer’s hottest trend, the distressed jean. So, make the best of what you’ve got and copy Cameran Diaz and Kate Beckinsale’s great distressed jean look by D.I.Y.
Tools needed: Wood block, pumice stone, utility knife.
Step 1: Start by placing a block of wood inside the pant leg, under the area to be distressed.
Step 2: Slice a fabric horizontally with a utility knife at several spots on each leg.
Step 3: Rough up fabric by rubbing with a pumice stone.
Step 4: For extra shredding, pick threads apart with a pin. Washing and drying before wearing will further distress the rips.
Tip: Rips should be random and different on each leg. Shred one shin but not the other. Vary the width of the tears as well.
But, if you don’t have the time like me, the following are jeans that Cameron and Kate are wearing as well for less.
