Katy Perry was photographed visiting poverty-stricken children in Madagascar recently as part of a UNICEF initiative. ”In less than one week here in Madagascar, I went from crowded city slums to the most remote villages and my eyes were widely opened by the incredible need for a healthy life—nutrition, sanitation and protection against rape and abuse—which UNICEF are stepping in to help provide,” Perry said in a statement. She wore a pair of Black Orchid Denim’s Black Jewel Tencel Skinny floral jeans in California Raspberry.

We stopped by the Black Orchid Denim showroom yesterday to preview their latest, and were immediately drawn to the refreshing resort wear quality of their tropical and floral printed denim shorts. Visions of sailing on a summer afternoon in a breezy tank and a pair of these cut-offs completely took over, despite the slushy, snowy conditions right outside the window. We’d say that means these shorts achieved their desired impact! Scroll to grab a pair for yourself.

Industry innovators Hudson Jeans are taking printed denim to the next level by using Photoreal imagery in a range of digitally printed jeans. Sounds amazing, right? It is. As you see in the prints below, they’re blowing past brands using repeated floral patterns and animal prints by working with full blown landscapes and intricate gradients. ”Prints are everywhere, so we wanted to find a new technique that would allow us to be more aspirational and forward,” Hudson creative director Ben Taverniti told Style.com.
These babies will be available at Hudson Jeans on February 28th. Mark your calendars.

Causal & feminine are the two words that describe Citizens Of Humanity‘s spring 2012 women’s collection. Wide-leg jeans, light-washes, playful frocks, and a gorgeous floral print (seen recently on Lana Del Rey) characterize the stylish, casual aesthetic. Even more daring pieces like a destroyed white denim vest with a shredded out back have a sense of vintage prettiness. Shown with white knit tops and leather belts, this is a no-fuss, no-frills wardrobe for women who want effortless basics that will never go out of style.

You already know we’re psyched about floral shorts this spring, but aside from classic wallpaper-esque prints that everyone wore last season (and will no doubt buy again in the spring), SOLD Design Lab showed us another genre of floral that has us dreaming of poolside parties and copious amounts of sorbet. Their airbrushed colored denim shorts feature gorgeous tropical and beachy floral prints that turn these bottoms into bonafide wearable vacations you can store in your closet! Children of the ’80s and ’90s will have flashbacks of Barbie dream house color schemes, while everyone who catches a glimpse will appreciate them as a fresh new take on the floral trend.
We’ve gotta hand it to the LA-based brand for keeping it Cali, and at the same time, giving us New Yorkers something to dream about now that we’re facing fall head-on. Also in the lineup, Union Jack-emblazoned shorts and tie-dye cut-offs that will go with everything.
You can shop SOLD Design Lab now at these retail locations & online stores.

We’re finally accepting fall and winter into our wardrobes now, in mid-October, but that doesn’t mean we won’t jump at the chance to talk about next spring, and all of the warm weather trends we’re looking forward to! One such trend is a reappearance of floral printed denim, and Citizens of Humanity showed us a few gorgeous options for cut-off shorts that are of particular intrigue. The dark wash is a great transitional winter-to-spring pick, while the light wash is summer denim at its finest. You can wear both with dark tights and your snow-crunching boots, and then carry them right into the warmest months with filmy tank tops and breezy blouses!

You know, one thing still on our summer to-do list is going on a spur of the moment road trip—windows down, tunes on blast, and looking casual-cool in our favorite denim get ups (obviously). This editorial out of the pages of H&M Magazine’s Summer 2011 issue shot by Daniel Jackson has definitely got our inspiration going with its perfect bold print-on-print and denim combos. Florals and animal print topped with a denim vest? Uh, yes please! All that’s left is a pair of oversized sunnies, a killer swim suit, and a pair of denim overalls (for easy wardrobe changes) and we’re set. Alright, who’s coming?
