We dropped in the American Eagle & Aerie fall 2013 preview yesterday for a pastry and some AM fashion-gazing. The ever-expanding line has amp’d up selection in both the men’s and women’s departments. We were especially delighted to see a carefully played bohemian influence in the styling of chic denim separates, flirty scarves, and gorgeous jewelry. This season we’re loving the returning Artist fit jean for women who want to edge towards flare leg while keeping it chic. Check out the full preview below!

Alessandra Ambrosio was spotted in a fun spring look recently: a pair of flare leg jeans by Black Orchid (grab a similar pair of flare leg jeans here) with a bright neon pink sweater. The simple pop-color combo and vintage flare leg silhouette makes for a great casual ensemble for shopping or running errands.

Buffalo David Bitton delivers a mix of key trends and undisputed classics for both sexes in their latest fall/winter denim delivery. Women can choose between traditional styles like medium-wash skinny and mid-rise flare—or they can go for more festive fare, like metallic snakeskin ankle-zip jeans or autumnal yellow colored denim. Men are likewise treated to traditional selections in classic washes… but the more fashion-forward gents can score a pair of saturated teal skinnies. We’re favoring the latter. Other coveted styles include abstract and animal prints and carefully cultivated washes. It’s not easy to choose, but here’s one thing we’re sure of: Buffalo David Bitton is stepping up their denim game. Are you in?

Agave Denim released their men’s and women’s fall 2012 lookbooks, featuring their usual spectrum of rich colors in innovative fabrications. What sets this release apart is that it’s Agave’s 10th anniversary, for which the husband and wife design team drew inspiration from the 1960s and the Olympics in Squaw Valley, CA.
Some highlights in the men’s collection include the Nihilist slim fit, Harp and Maverick limited edition selvedge styles, and a new bootcut, aptly named Bootist. Fabrications include kaihara and kuroki denim, as well as non-denim luxury fabrics like “Wolf Canvas” (100% cotton italian yarndyed canvas with rinse finish) and “Mad Plaid” (100% Italian moleskin with rinse finish).
Some highlights from the women’s line include the Tomboy skinny boyfriend fit jean, the slouchy Peace Corps trouser, and the Sophia high-rise pencil skirt. Fabrics are overdyed in a fall color palette with hues like Picante, Hunter Green,Tapioca, Pewter, Otter, and Rose dawn. An innovative indigo denim that has the look of raw, but a more comfortable hand, has also been introduced.

Net-A-Porter never lets you down when it comes to style, and the same is true with its denim collection. We’ve plucked six jeans from the online retailer that are spot-on for summer. With warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to keep cool by wearing a wide-leg, boyfriend fit, or cropped jean. Jessica Alba is a woman on the move, but being airborne all the time doesn’t keep her from looking painfully stylish. She recently took flight in a chic pair of flare leg dark wash jeans—specifically the J Brand Kiki High-rise Flare Leg jeans in Monaco wash. London-based blogger Hedvig is definitely one of our street style inspirations for spring. We love how she wears radically different kinds of jeans–printed skinnies, white flares, and cropped, cuffed jeans–in equally chic ways. Bonus points for incorporating a mint green sweater (the “it” color this season), denim-on-denim, and graphic prints into these outfits. If you’re a fan, get the looks below!

DT blog editor Michelle Christina reviews her second pair of Fidelity Denim jeans (the first being the Ace Skinny Jean in Ginza Black) and her second pair of flare-leg jeans since junior high (the first being the MiH flare-leg Marrakesh in Reed). Scroll to find out whether these dark-wash beauties pass the comfort, fit, and wear-ability test!
Check them out below:
What was your first thought when you tried them on?
My first thought was that they’ll be needing a quick hem job via Denim Therapy’s hemming service! But my second thought was “these are more comfortable than sweatpants!”
Where/when would you wear these?
Despite the extreme comfort, they have the DNA of denim, so they’re perfect for lounging but ideal for dressing up with a silk blouse & some baubles. I’m really into the idea of transforming them into a nautical look with some sailor stripes and my anchor earrings.
How’s the fit?
In general they’re a great fit—comfortable and flattering. I might have them taken in a bit above the knees where there’s some excess to maximize the silhouette. I wore them all weekend and I haven’t experienced any permanent stretch in the fabric. After my love affair with the Ace Skinny in Ginza and this new denim crush’o'mine, I think Fidelity is becoming a new favorite brand.

What is the golden rule for denim shopping? Avoid muffin tops by buying jeans with at least an 8″ rise! The rise is the length from the bottom of the crotch to the top of the waist band. Buying jeans without trying them on is hard enough, but this is one regulation to stick by if you want the best chance of flattering your figure. Sarah reminds us of this all-important rule in this week’s video below.

January Jones was spotted in a vintage-inspired look involving one of our favorite pairs of jeans, The MiH Jeans Marrakesh flare leg jean, and a fur trim jacket that looks like something Jimi Hendrix might have worn. Beneath her jacket, a gorgeous white lace top. These jeans are a super comfortable, mid-rise style in a soft, luxe denim that you can turn elegant or rock’n'roll with a few quick changes.
