First there was Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in matching denim at the 2001 American Music Awards. The denim gown on Spears and denim tuxedo on Timberlake are forever ingrained on the impressionable minds of young millennials across the country. Then Katy Perry donned denim in an attempt to tug at the heart strings of her “90’s kids” fans with her date, Riff Raff, at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. In Perry’s famously kitschy fashion her gown was an obvious homage to the original worn by Spears.
Then Pharell Williams and his wife Helen Lasichanh wore matching double denim outfits last night at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and the whole fashion world was entranced once again. This time, however, it appeared the couple updated the double denim look in an honest act of self expression. Pharell was decked out in a white tee, denim jacket and jeans in a matching shade. Lasichanh wore a denim button up shirt trendily buttoned all the way to the top underneath a distressed pair of overalls. Pharell is known for being true to his sense of self and once you remember that he has joined G-Star to create his own line of denim products made from recycled plastics, G-Star RAW for the the Oceans, the denim outfit seems perfectly appropriate.
Last night Levi’s hosted their Spring 2011 Press Preview party at the Levi’s Photo Workshop, an amazing community pop-up studio in Soho. Besides being beautiful (soaring ceilings, tons of vintage cameras everywhere, and a giant chandelier made out of empty water jugs), the space functions as a for-rent, free community space for artists. Pretty nifty. Needless to say, it was a great place to have a party.
The spring line showcased the upcoming spring denim trends: pastels, lightweight fabrics, high-waisted cuts, and boho glam. Effortlessly styled models rocked the spring looks center stage in catalogue-ready poses. Check out my favorite piece, the pastel cropped trouser worn by the blonde model, below.
Along with serving the most adorable mini lobster rolls I’ve ever seen, Levi’s also introduced their much talked about “Water<Less” denim process, which saves up to 40.6 liters of water per jean in manufacturing. I just love all these eco fashion trends! You can look out for the “waterelss” line in stores in January.
Later on in the night, British indie-rock band The Duke Spirit played a set, as the crowd sipped on whiskey cocktails and (very stylishly) bobbed their heads. Lead singer Liela Moss’ leather fringe necklace was super amazing, and I loved watching it move with her as she rocked out.
Overall, the new line was fresh, wearable, and right on trend for spring. The space was beautiful, and Levi’s threw a fantastic party. Two thumbs up for the iconic denim brand!

Now that you know about the Rock & Republic sale, brought to you by The Warehouse Sale (TWS), here’s the scoop on some items on sale: I was very curious as to what is actually being offered, so I broke into the TWS headquarters in L.A. Just kidding. The verdict: they are selling everything but shoes. These are not samples. Men’s and women’s jeans will go for under $80 on the first day. It’s R&R heaven in NYC!
Packing up at the L.A. warehouse: Rock & Republic tux blazer ($89.99), jeans ($79.99) and leather jacket ($79.99).
I also saw legions of gorgeous couture-worthy gowns taunting me on the racks, along with jumpsuits and even kiddie jeans. Shop early to nab the best selection of Rock & Republic goods. You’ll likely score big sinc everything is under $100. The buttery moto leather jacket I’m wearing in the picture above is retail at $398, but will go for $80. Swoon!
