BiceSter Fall/Winter 2011 Brings Quirk and Cool to Menswear

There’s nothing more lame than a clothing line that takes itself too seriously. No one likes a fuddy-duddy! And that’s part of the reason why we love Yusuke Ota’s menswear line, BiceSter. The Japanese label’s fall/winter 2011 collection playfully injects corals, blues, and mellow hues into loose trousers, cargo shorts, and relaxed-but-not-sloppy shirts. We even find ourselves digging the pieced-together denim bottoms. Patchwork for men? So not the norm, but yes, yes, yes!

UNIONMADE Indigio Capsule Collection For Fall 2011

California-based menswear boutique UNIONMADE has produced what we would describe as a fully saturated lifestyle-oriented lookbook for their latest capsule collection, “Indigo”. The menswear spread features a curated selection of the boutique’s favorite brands and looks that were designed to showcase the indigo color and dye. Says the brand, “Indigo dyed goods are believed to carry a strength rooted in hard work and brings life to the cloth it saturates with a rich and vibrant blue”. Check out the gorgeous images below, and shop the collection here. You can also see behind-the-scenes photos of the shooting at the UNIONMADE blog.

Buffalo David Bitton Gets Sexy (Again) For Their Fall 2011 Lookbook

Buffalo David Bitton has done it again with their sexy (and topless) lookbook for fall 2011. Who needs a shirt when you’ve got a killer pair of jeans on anyway, right?  And while we’ll leave to the models to be the bonafide provocateurs, we would definitely be more than happy to take a pair or two of the killer denim duds they’re sporting off their hands. Though, perhaps its a better idea that we don’t (if you know what we mean). But with an amazing selection of wide leg and bootcut jeans, body-hugging skinnies, and killer leopard print denim short shorts, honestly how could we not be tempted? Whew! Who knew fall could be so hot?

J.Crew Fall 2011 Lookbook Denim Picks

To say we love the use of color in J.Crew’s Fall 2011 lookbook would be a hilarious understatement. We’re enamored with the mustard yellows, magentas, and cyans in a way that makes us (for a fleeting second) wish Fall would come for a week before summer really gets going. There’s even a pair of lilac slacks. To make matters more exciting? Glimpses of dark-wash cuffed denim peeking out from outfits with more muted hues. Khaki, camel, and beige are seamless matches for deep and medium blue wash denim jackets and desaturated jeans, topped off with fedoras and wispy, autumn hair. How romantic!

Bleulab Jeans Q&A and Fall 2011 Lookbook

If you thought you’ve heard it all it’s time to listen once again. Bleulab Jeans have come up with a reversible denim. Yup, that means two jeans in one pair. You can wear your jeans on either side depending on which side of the bed you woke up on! Their new line (which you’ll see more of below). Skinny cuts with slick finishes in deep teal, plum, and olive, frayed cut-off shorts and faux snake skins take this line up a notch with intense sex appeal. Destroyed boyfriend cuts add a touch of rebel that sums up the lookbook’s soviet military vibe. Denim Therapy had an opportunity to interview designer Carl Jones for a closer look.

Denim Therapy: Lets start from the beginning. How did you know you wanted to be a designer?
Carl Jones: I don’t consider myself a designer. I’m an inventor…What is a designer anyway?

DT: Are there other denim brands you consider your immediate competition? How do you differentiate yourself from the hundreds of popular denim brands afloat right now?
CJ: No. I differenciate myself by having two finishes within every pair of jeans.

DT: Do you have any pre-designing rituals?
CJ: Yes, purpose.

DT: Describe the person who represents your ideal target customer—the customer you have in mind when you’re planning a collection.
CJ: This person has a high taste level and has to have and wear the newest and freshest fashion available.

DT: Can you give us hint about what’s next for (following or upcoming season — Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter)?
CJ: Spring 2012: we are having success with color and coating. I will take this theme to the next level.

DT: What would be your dream collaboration? Any plans of that in the future?
CJ: I am sort of a one-man show. Unless you can bring Salvador Dali back.

DT: What are the most popular washes/fits in the line? What are your favorites, and how would you style them?
CJ: Fits: leggings. Washes: Bleu Lead, Granite, Nitrious, Vitriol Coating, Indigo with Black Coating. I would style them with simple tops.

DT: Do you have any favorite/least favorite denim trends right now?
CJ: I feel there are no fresh denim trends right now. I feel people should think more outside the box.

DT: Street style and style blogs are huge in the industry right now as a source of inspiration, influencing the high end labels rather than vice versa. How much does street style influence your designing?
CJ: For me it’s all about street style. This is where it all starts.

DT: How many pairs of denim do YOU own?
CJ: Not sure, I collect jeans.

DT: Favorite celeb wearing your brand?
CJ: Monica Rose.
