NY Market Week: Edwin’s E.N.D. at Project

After the exciting commencement of New York Fashion Week: Men’s, came the rush of New York Market Week where designers and brands showed off their freshest designs and samples to retailers in showrooms across the city.

We started  our week at Project New York and our very first stop was E.N.D. denim. We had a brief glimpse of the E.N.D. denim line at the Denim Expo hosted by BPD Washhouse in June. E.N.D. is the new offshoot of the venerable Japanese denim brand Edwin (E.N.D. is an acronym of Edwin ‘N Denim). This sub-brand is so new that at this point that their digital footprint is almost nonexistent so we were lucky to have a quick chat with the designer, Yutaka Endo, and get a closer look at the collection at Project.

Highlights of the collection include denim at an entry-level price point, light chambray shirts, hoodies, and super soft polo shirts. All of the pieces feature one or two of E.N.D.’s signature motifs: the mizuhiki or the asanoha pattern. The mizuhiki knot is a bow traditionally used during gift-giving. The asanoha is an auspicious,  abstract hemp leaf pattern. Lookout for the release of E.N.D. in the next year and check back at the Denim Therapy blog for more details on the official launch. If you are in the Brooklyn area you can stop by NOS Boutique in Dumbo to buy a select assortment of E.N.D. teeshirts and men’s jeans.

Denim We Love: 9 Slim & Skinny Jeans for Men

Let’s face it: men also need options when it comes to jeans.  While we agree that not every man should wear skinny jeans, some men can really rock a pair.  And, for the slimmer men out there, a pair of skinnies are the only ones that will fit properly on their bodies.  So, without further adieu, we rounded up nine pairs of skinny jeans that caught our eyes, both for the washes and treatments, and for the potential to flatter the various shapes of the male form.  You’ll be surprised how good you look in them.  Whether you’re a musician or a college professor, we think you’ll find a wearable pair of jeans to wear this season.

Summer Video Series: Edwin Jeans Just Wants You to Ride Your Motorcycle

If you had a chance to ride through Europe with your posse, wouldn’t you be wearing your Edwin Jeans, with the hem upturned to reveal your selvedge pride? And, if you do happen to wear double denim or get your boots muddy, who cares. With “The Motorcycle Song” by Arlo Guthrie serving as the road trip’s soundtrack, the group of riders includes a young lady who is enjoying the trip equally as much as the rest of the guys. Produced by Edwin Europe’s creative team and directed by Benjamin Robinson.

Edwin, Back in the U.S.A.

Edwin is returning to the U.S. market this fall after a two year absence, due to the exchange rate between the yen and the dollar.  A new partnership with The Foundation, a New york based sales and distribution partner, will help Edwin to relaunch in the U.S. with their first men’s denim collection.

The men’s collection consists of four fits, from slim to a traditional straight leg.  Washes range from raw to full vintage looks, with many styles featuring Edwin’s signature buckle-back detail.  All produced in Japan, prices will range from $225 to $300, with special product embellished with sterling silver hardware going as high as $700.

???We wanted to launch with the brand??™s top-of-the-line Japanese product. As time goes by, we??™ll bring prices down by bringing in some product that isn??™t made in Japan,??? noted Langsdorf, a partner of The Foundation (WWD).

Edwin will be available in 75 specialty stores in August, including Bergdorf Goodman Men, Scoop, Atrium, American Rag and Fred Segal Man, as well as and four Bloomingdale’s locations. Otherwise, Edwin jeans for both men and women are available on-line at international websites such as ASOS, YOOX, Cooshti, and Stuarts London.
