We love when new designers direct their energy and fresh perspective into experimental, interesting garments. German-born Saskia Schijen does not disappoint! Though she only graduated from the Royal College of Art this year, her high-concept–but not unwearable–creations have landed her a spot on our denim designer watch list. While maintaining a clean and simple aesthetic, Schijen plays with proportion, shying away from ubiquitous skinny fit jeans and creating oversize denim pants that look as if they’ve been deconstructed, reconstructed, and then haphazardly belted to perfection. Though combining white, indigo, and baby blue washes could easily get muddled under less skilled hands, the different dyes are blocked out to a bold and graphic effect. Unexpected, perhaps, but all the more welcome.

Strolling into a Jean Shop will have you seeing colors, and by that we mean dozens of custom-dyed denim hues you’ll feel like you can’t live without. We strolled into the 14th street Jean Shop location (which is close to Milk Studios, and awesome for street style snapping) and spied these palettes of delectable jeans just waiting to be taken home. Which is your favorite?

The whimsical pastels and barefoot models in M2F Brand Denim‘s spring 2011 lookbook call to mind the freshest spring breeze as the ice forms over the city pavement. We daydreamed our way through the pages of individually dyed and treated denim cuts in their signature “Clear H20″ colors, like Starflower, Tiger lilly, and Bluebell. M2F is known for their acute attention to dying denim in seasonal hues (their current fall collection comes in Black Tea, Brick Red, French Bordeaux…) with names so delicious, the sensory experience of their target customer is conjured up with a glance at the tag. We’re loving the Rose skinny leg and the Birchwood bootcut, but the Daffodil straight leg cuffed to the calves has us pining for summer already…

With vintage washes and candy-colored charm, M2F is sure to be a hot pick come spring. Get ahead of the game by browsing their new collection. Click here for the full lookbook.
