When you enter the G-Star Raw showroom, you enter the G-Star Raw universe. That’s what we found out when Denim Therapy was invited to preview the latest of the men’s and women’s collections. TV screens broadcast campaigns alongside shelves of G-Star product, the Bread & Butter collection was displayed on a still parade of mannequins along a hallway stretch, flooded with natural light. Our first impression when we entered the women’s room? The G-Star showroom girls had denim nails (our favorite)! Second impression? G-Star is getting cooler (and more versatile) by the season. Read on to find out why.
For the women’s collection, we started with clothing worn in the fall 2011 campaign, featuring fierce tailored denim jacket and cuffed light-wash jeans among others, but none outshined our favorite: black jeans with twisted inseams. The spring 2012 collection featured a range of basics in denim, from the loose tapered arc jean in light wash, to the skinny and bootleg cuts. A vibrant red Arc super skinny popped out, with a rich brown counterpart.
The Raw Essentials line showed innovative approaches to streetwear for women, mixing tailored denim blazers with roughed-up overalls and suspender one-piece jumpers, proving that raw denim’s place in the wardrobe is expanding. The Raw Sustainable collection saw super practical pieces like a navy denim pencil skirt and flare leg jean, as well as a pull-over anorak we’re dying to pull-over our own heads! The Correct line blew our minds with a camel colored one-piece strapless jumpsuit, but our favorite non-denim piece was a leather bomber jacket in rose pink. Check out our snaps below.
The men’s collection was bright with colors, prints, and rich washes. Basic denim styles included dark wash Arc loose tapered jeans, distressed slim fits, super slim jeans, and a tapered chino in camel. The Raw Essentials line featured denim work shirts in dark and light washes (including a short sleeve medium-wash we loved), and the (indeed essential) raw Arc jeans. Raw sustainable had some great jackets, like the Navy bomber jacket and worker jacket combo, which would both look great over a nearby nautical, striped t-shirt.
The jacket collection was further fleshed out in the General collection and Correct line, with a spectrum of leathers, denim, and other outerwear textiles, including an extra long parka in camel, the plaid fleet mountain jacket, and a deconstructed blazer. Our favorite? G-Star’s varsity jacket, or the ombre “Halo” bomber. Check out our snaps below.

We know what you must be thinking…how can you possibly give denim on denim a twist? Well, trust us it’s totally doable and it involves one of the biggest of-the-moment trends: color! Pairing a medium wash denim work shirt with a pair of bright colored jeans like fashion blogger Aimee Song has done here is the perfect way to give your denim wardrobe a breathe of fresh air. We love this saturated shade of pink, but if you wanted to tone this down you could totally do it by opting for a softer more muted tone and styling it with lighter denim shirt. Either way you’ll be on-trend and summer-ready!

The always stunning Magdalena Frackowiak headlines the latest campaign for Reserved spring summer 2011. The Polish beauty sports some pretty sexy denim looks from denim short shorts (a must-have for the season), relaxed light-washed denim work shirts, and denim jackets. We are really loving the summer-ready feel with all the swimwear separates thrown into the mix. We’re not going to deny that we absolutely adore the slight bohemian feel (as you probably know by now, we’ve been on a boho fix lately) added by all the great accessories from the braided belts, ditsy floral scarves and exaggerated sun hats. All we have to say is that with campaigns like this tantalizing us summer can’t come soon enough!
For full coverage of the campaign including interviews with Magdalena check out the Reserved website.
