We’re smack dab in the middle of fall, with winter creeping right around the corner, but the chillier air doesn’t mean that shorter hemlines should be swept away until the temperature rises. Try wearing a denim skirt–they’re not only a summertime staple. Just add some great tights (paired with all the coats, scarves, and boots you need to keep warm), and you’ll be ready to brave the cold with more outfit options than just plain jeans.

Denim Therapy has been so busy pounding the trade show floors that we barely had time to sleep. However, we couldn’t not talk about New York Fashion Week before we moved onto the next shows! Denim has gone glam in the form of metallic jeans for Spring 2012 (Diesel Black Gold), and there is a return to and continuation of patchwork and panel denim motifs (Charlotte Ronson and D&G). Although there were several other brands which had denim represented in their collections, we only chose to feature a few designer labels which we feel really worked with and integrated denim into their collections in a deeper sense. Which denim trend do you think will make a big splash come spring?
Diesel Black Gold Spring-Summer 2012: metallic jeans in reflective foil, reptilian and shimmery abalone-green hues offered lustre and texture to denim. The brand continues to redefine itself as not just a brand about blue jeans. More Diesel Black Gold online at Style.com.
Theyskens’ Theory Spring-Summer 2012: Olivier Theyskens still loves black and white, but he has thrown in vibrant acid-washed jeans and high-waisted, drop-crotch denim with drop-waist belt loops, creating an illusion of a low waist. Will this be the game changer? More Theyskens’ Theory online at Style.com.
: Patchwork denim, denim and chambray panels, and denim pieced together with silk in muted and faded washes, shows Ronson’s desire to keep the fun, flirty and feminine in a woman’s everyday wardrobe. We loved that Ronson used denim as both the main ingredient and the accent fabric in this collection. More
Whether you want skinny jeans or the more casual boyfriend cut, Washborn has the denim you want. The best part about this Korean line is the price of their premium denim–all under $100! That is one deal that cannot be argued with, especially after taking a look at the different washes and cuts of their denim shorts, jeans, and skirts. We love how they make all the pieces fall-friendly by suggesting to pair the warm-weather items with opaque tights. They may have just made their mark on U.S. soil, but with quality clothing like this they are sure to be around for quite some time!

Fashion label Adam (by 2007 CFDA darling Adam Lippes) is not exactly known for its collection of jeans, but we were delighted just the same to see an on-trend and sophisticated collection of bell bottoms and high-waisted wide leg jeans. Like many of Adam’s resort-friendly and jetsetter-like dresses and separates, the vintage-inspired jeans are cut for the modern woman who prefers a more tailored look (frontal pintucks and flap pocket details). We are also digging the tulip denim skirt, a beautiful alternative to the classic jeans skirt. We sincerely hope the trend for denim continues, by a denim expansion in the menswear department.

We’re used to getting scantly-styled campaigns and lookbooks from the always sexy and undeniably hot Ellus Jeans. However, their latest lookbook has us thinking that it might be a fairly warm fall season, and we’re totally digging it! With ultra distressed denim short shorts and skirts as staples paired with low-slung tops in fierce snake prints the last thing we have on our minds after clicking through all the images is bundling up. In fact, we’re wishing more and more that it was summer already. We are really loving the whole bohemian rocker chick feel added into the mix with acid wash jeans, vintage graphic tees, studded leather jackets, and skin-tight leather pants. All we have to say is that if the forecast for fall really is this hot, we’re totally in!

Nicky Hilton in Abercrombie & Fitch
Jean skirts are back in fashion this season. Update a typically bohemian or western look with a boyfriend jacket and ankle boots a la Nicky Hilton for a fresh, casual and edgy look.
D.I.Y. instructions to create your own Jean Skirt
(Source – Life & Style):
Tools needed: Scissors, tape measure, utility knife, sewing machine
Step 1: Cut jeans to desired skirt length
Step 2: Rip open the inseam (inside the legs) with a seam ripper or utility knife
Step 3: Use excess fabric (from the legs that were cut off) to make a patch insert.
Step 4: Sew patch onto inseams in front and back, then trim the hem so it’s even. Wash, dry and wear!
Tip: Jean skirts are great for showing off legs, so keep the length well above the knees. Skirts that are too long can look bulky and dowdy.
