In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re big fans of the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), plus one more–repair! Denim Therapy can help you extend the life of your jeans, but if you’re looking to buy some eco-friendly denim, we’ve also got you covered. Here are six awesome brands doing their best to help the environment:
With colored denim being such a big hit this season, it’s especially cool that M2F created a dye bath that uses 50% less energy and water than traditional methods, while also eliminating commonly used toxic materials. Plus, their Made2Fade Technology Yarn is certified by the Swedish OEKO-TEX lab to be free of any harmful substances.

G-Star RAW Sustainable
G-Star RAW Sustainable collection is not only made entirely out of organic cotton, which minimizes the use of harsh-on-Mother-Nature pesticides and other pollutants, G-Star also touts various sustainable operations practices, like reducing energy use and only using transportation companies that meet certain environmental standards.
Navy Shirt | Navy Pencil Skirt
For spring/summer 2012, Nudie Jeans produced 43% of its garments from organic cotton, with the longer-term goal to amp that number up to 100%. As part of their larger efforts to reduce waste, their Post Recycle Dry program takes old Nudie jeans and makes them into new, limited edition pairs.
Thin Finn Organic Jeans | Grim Tim Organic Blue Fade Jeans
Levi’s Water<Less Jeans
Making jeans is a water-intensive process, and a lot of the environmental cost of production comes from water. Often, jeans are washed multiple times before we take ’em home, but the Levi’s Water<Less Jeans finishing process uses up to 96% less water than usual. 172 million liters of water (and counting!) have been saved so far.
511 Skinny Jeans – 3D Coated | Modern Demi Curve Ankle Skinny Jeans
Perhaps you know Edun best in relation to its founders Ali Hewson and Bono, but the ethical clothing line isn’t simply a celeb pet project. The company focuses on fair wage and labor practices, and uses organic cotton to produce their line.
Indigo Denim Jacket | Denim Flares
With jeans made from organic cotton, hemp, recycled wool, and more, Kuyichi prides itself in using eco-friendly and recycled fabrics, including natural dyes. Their full list of sustainable materials used is pretty informative as well, if you pride yourself in knowing the benefits of the alternative fabrics used.

As with its full length counterpart, the denim short is a style essential because it can broadcast a classic, preppy look just as effectively as it can compliment an outfit that’s fierce and punk-rock inspired. Arriving in must-have renditions like floral, neon, and tie-dye, you can delve into trend-chasing with the knowledge that they won’t go out of style anytime soon. Even novelty denim has more longevity than other fabrics, so with that in mind, here are 12 selects from our personal wishlist.

The denim industry’s all-out explosion of options, from designer to discount and novelty to classic, is a double edged sword. While we all have five times as many options for jeans shopping as we did just a few years ago, that means there are more potential candidates to weed through before you find the brand with the perfect fit for you. And while fit is the ultimate deal breaker, you’ve also got fabrication, wash, price, and overall aesthetics to think about. Dang!
But never fear—we’re gonna make it a little easier for you, by breaking down some of our favorite brands into price points that work with your budget, and selecting our favorite currently-available jeans from each. You can scroll, click, shop, or take notes on which jeans you want to try on next time you’re braving the fitting room. Got a question about your body type or a brand you want to know more about? Email us, tweet at us, or ask us on facebook!
Denim Under $100
1. Forever21 Denim. Let’s just say it is hard to turn down Forever 21 jeans. Not only do they produce fun, on-trend styles, but you can’t beat the price! Quality is obviously not top notch, but you can wear out a pair of F21 jeans for over six months before they’ll need some Denim Therapy. While they have your classic blue jeans, they also have cuter, younger looks (rhinestones… we can’t really comment, but think prints, colors, and fun accents).

1. Nudie Jeans Co
. Nudie Jeans Co. believes denim is like a memory log of your life (we couldn’t agree more). All of their dry denims are made from organic cotton, and the company encourages you to break in your raw jeans through living your
life and seeing what kind of stains and abrasions show up. The Swedish label doesn’t explicitly delineate between men’s and women’s denim, which gives you all the more options for fit and style.
