For a little bit of a flare, amp up your denim shorts and cut-offs with some sequins, studs, fringe, and trims (even Rosie Huntington-Whiteley‘s a fan). We like a little sparkle and shine sometimes, but it’s all too easy to get a pair that’s gaudy–and not in a not-cute way. To save you time, here are nine pairs of embellished shorts for you to wear come summer…or springtime, if you’re so lucky!
1. Joe’s Jeans Sequin Shorts 2. Siwy Camilla Cut-Off Shorts 3. Black Orchid Denim Shorts
4. RUNWAYDREAMZ Studded Short 5. Textile Elizabeth and James Short 6. J Brand Leather Trim Shorts
7. Iro Light Blue Embroidered and Studded Shorts

We don’t know a lot about The Vampire Diaries over here at Denim Therapy, but we do know we love its star, Nina Dobrev, and the denim and punky southwestern duds she shows off in this month’s issue of Nylon Magazine. Check out the gorgeous Siwy shorts (paired with a fringe embellishment) on the cover; click through the rest of the shoot to see her wearing more amazing brands like Acne, Ralph Lauren, and McQ while you see why shiny, turquoise, western shirts and accessories are our newest favorite look for the coming season.

Wandering around the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn on any warm spring day, you’re bound to come across a ton of flea-market esque sidewalks full of vintage, second-hand, and (in this case) random items to be browsed. We happened to discover this pair of high-top denim sneakers sporting quilted top, denim fringe trim, and dragon embroidery. We’re all about questionable flashbacks from the ’80s and ’90s, but even we had to stop and blink at this one. So, our challenge is… how could you style these to make them… well, stylish?! Sound off on facebook.

Charley 5.0, the denim brand that boasts a singular pair of jeans in their spring 2011 lookbook, wants you to look at denim differently. They’re not releasing a slew of new washes and treatments, or even new fits and approaches to the basic pair of jeans. Their mission is to illuminate denim as an option for all occasions, by construction separates like corset tops and jumpsuits from our favorite textile. The results are hit and miss (we’re not crazy about the soft pleats in the red denim pencil skirt, or the extra-long fringe on the blue jean skirt), but we like where this is going.
