This one’s for the romantic bohemians (and anyone who wishes they were still at the beach… ugh). Australian retailer The Freedom State styled their new lookbook to look like the a flawless seaside late-summer evening, though summer is just beginning for our friends down under. The denim-centric, boho-chic series features denim overalls, cut-off shorts, and an irresistible variety of cozy knits and resortwear. Check out some of our favorite shots below.
We’ve been talking a lot about shorts recently. Colored shorts, celebs wearing shorts, bikini and bathing suit top combos…the list goes on. (Hey, it’s hot!) But even in the worst oppressive heat, most of us have limits on what we’re willing to wear in public. For instance, when it comes to cut-offs, everyone’s comfort level is different. Need proof? Browse through some street style blogs. From upper-thigh to practically-underwear, we found denim cut-off shorts that run the length gamut in our search to answer the eternal cut-offs question: how short is too short? Is there even such a thing? Let us know what you think!
To help you reach your verdict, we’ve rounded up some stylish ladies wearing all different types of cut-offs:
Something else else to consider: how ripped, ragged, torn, or distressed are you willing to wear ‘em?
Pssst, if you want to make your own cut-offs–of whatever length you fancy–we can help you out!

As if this cold weather wasn’t enough, the 7 For All Mankind Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook has us so ready to say goodbye to these winter temps! There are bursts of colored denim, which we are happy to see continued into next season, especially in the coral colored jean jacket. It is such a fun color to welcome in spring with, plus it matches well with a lot of other colors, so this can be as go-to a piece for you as your classic blue jean jacket is too. As far as jeans go, there are skinnies, flares, cropped, and colored styles, so you will never be stuck with one sort of look out of this line. The flares have a more laid-back feel to them, which immediately remind us of the lazy days of summer (ah, memories!). We really love the detailing on the pair with the four button closure instead of the usual zipper and little details like this throughout the whole collection ensure that you’re not buying just any old piece of denim. Keep an eye out for the release of the line at the 7 For All Mankind Online Shop.

We are loving this editorial out of the pages of Nylon Magazine lensed by Andrew Yee featuring some killer throwback 80s meets 90s pattern clashing looks. Our favorite pick includes a clever mix of florals, sexy polka dots, faux fur, and a pair of shredded denim short shorts. And though that’s pretty much the only denim used, we ain’t gonna lie we can’t get enough of the overall whimsical style of it all—gaudy accessories totally included. Check out the rest of the looks below!

This has definitely been the summer of cut-off denim shorts and everything vintage, so we thought it totally appropriate to throw one more street style look at you just for mere awesomeness of it (and because we’re pretty much obsessed). This look by Chanelle L. of Los Angeles has it all: a pair of vintage stone washed denim shorts, cute vintage tank top, killer shades, and amazing leopard wedge booties. Basically the ideal summer get-up. Don’t fret though, chances are this trend will go strong through fall give or take a couple layers, so there will be more cut-offs in your future—promise!

For your viewing and listening pleasures, we bring you model Brianna of Look Models, romping around in a couple of denim cutoff shorts. In “Summer Fun,” Brianna is styled with a couple of beach-friendly tops, taking a stroll while Beck’s “Golden Age” sets the mood. Don’t you just love those lazy weekends? And, don’t think we didn’t notice that she’s showing off a pair of Levi’s high-waisted jeans which have been cut at a slight bias, revealing more on the hips, and longer at the inner thighs. With a bit of fraying, the cut offs look very DIY, but done very well. What do you think of this look? Would you have gone with a low-rise pair of jeans, or do you think this is perfection?

…of course one of the afformentioned elements is a killer pair of cut-off shorts. We spotted this lovely lady on the Facehunter‘s blog and decided to whip up a little how-to for those who want to acquire this vacation-esque look. Start with a pair of cut-off shorts that really fit you well. We love this super-dark wash (almost a faded black or navy). Pair with a neutral colored button-up top (extra points for a v-neck). Sleeves can be cuffed or feature a cute mini-blousson detail as seen below. Finish off the look with a bright white scarf—this is the point of the look! That shot of white will give you a just-got-off-the-beach vibe that may even rub off on your mood (even on a Monday).

If you haven’t caught on by now, we’ll say it one more time: western wear is in! For those of you that are unsure about this trend, just take a hint from fashion blogger Thilda. She shows how effortless this look can be by pairing a black cowboy hat with our favorite closet staples: a fringed t-shirt, denim cut-off shorts, and braided belt. So it’s time to embrace your inner cowboy and cowgirl and live it up like it’s the Wild, Wild West (we’re taking this as an excuse to head to the nearest
happy hour saloon).
