Female denim-heads rejoice! The answer to your prayers is here. At long last a raw denim jean made by women for women. Gamine Workwear is a New England based company who specializes in no-nonsense workwear that is utilitarian yet easy on the eyes and most importantly on the body. The line is designed by Taylor Johnston, Manager of the Gardens and Greenhouses at the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum in Boston, Massachusetts. Johnston sums up the company’s values best herself-
Gamine has a variety of other products in their shop made and sourced with the same focus on local design and a sustainable and transparent production process. Pictured below is the hand-dyed indigo hemp tee who’s claim to fame is being one of the most rugged teeshirts on the market. They also have a handful of vintage overalls.
If you’re looking for new It Jeans this spring that aren’t too trendy but have just the right amount of pizzazz, then look to Mother Denim. They’ve produced a denim range which incorporates all the most popular jeans fits in unadorned, unembellished styles. From vintage washes to fun metallic jeans, it won’t be too hard to find your go-to jean for the better part of the year. We’re particularly in love with the Curfew fit (a skinny thigh which gradually opens up to a subtle bell-bottom leg) and the tasteful color scheme from buttery yellow to muted blues, purples and reds. And, for context, check out their “Mood Book” of images which include pants printed with summery graphics.
By the way, check out Denim Therapy’s recent visit to Mother Denim’s showroom for a behind-the-scenes peek.

This spring, expect to see stylish people not only rocking colored jeans, but pastel snakeskin print jeans, thanks to TEXTILE Elizabeth & James. The denim-driven brand offshoot of the more runway-friendly Elizabeth & James fashion label is daring fashionistas to go boldly beyond solid neons (check out their pre-Spring neon capsule collection at Shopbop) and basic five-pocket jeans. Fancy a psychedelic kaleidoscope print? Last season’s nod to the ’70s continues somewhat; however, the collection has a larger ’80s fashion presence: skinny ankle jeans, pastel denim and a boyish denim overall. If you’re still in love with their bell bottom jeans, TEXTILE will have a juicier version to appease you. Check out the lookbook and take it all in.

Nothing is too good for baby, according to G-Star. You can’t buy your friends love, but you can make them a one-off, custom handcrafted chambray baby denim coverall with thin blue selvage, created from a special source in Japan, lovingly detailed with special Tenue de Nîmes logo embroidery, and then finally presented in a handcrafted dust bag. That’s what G-Star RAW Men’s Designer Remco de Nijs did for his good friend (apparently) Menno van Meurs of Tenue de Nîmes, to welcome their “new addition” to the team. We’re certain denim-loving moms and dads are collectively jealous.

The Levi’s Made & Crafted Fall Winter 2011 Collection has a classic Americana feel to it, but gives us some new styles and silhouettes to keep the look fresh. Baggy jeans may have had a bad rep in the past, but they get a makeover with the denim merchant worker pants. By cuffing them above boots, your legs won’t be swallowed up by the material and you also will have an extremely comfortable fit. Of course there are also some skinny jeans thrown in there, with the added bonus of different washes and a high-waisted style. While the full-length denim coveralls resemble a painter’s getup a bit too much for us, the short coveralls are really cute and can be worn throughout the year by pairing them with legwarmers when it’s cold out. This division of Levi’s handles their more higher-end products, so even though you may have to throw in some extra $$, this collection can stay in your closet year round which definitely makes it worth it.

Fashion Gone Rogue recently went on safari to produce an exclusive photo shoot, “It’s Tropical,” shot by Marco Trunz and modeled by Kira Mazura. Featuring denim overall shorts, and lots of jumpsuits which had us doing double takes (some of the outfits could easily pass as denim); we certainly fell for the feminine denim styling and now yearn for the that much-needed vacation! This piece definitely provided a big ol’ dose of inspiration on how to accessorize our denim for a stylish summer excursion—be it in a romper, denim dress, jumpsuit or overalls.
