MC scored a pair of Henry & Belle Super Skinny Ankle in Onyx wash (you’ll recall her adoration for her medium-wash Super Skinny H&B‘s posted a few months back). Indeed, her adoration continues for this cut and this brand. Read her remarks on fit, style, and versatility below.
What was your first thought when you tried them on?
My first thought was how much I love this signature thick stretch denim. There is nothing flimsy about these jeans (that’s a noteworthy problem with some stretch denim on the market, and you don’t want them sagging off your butt after wearing them a few times).
Where/when would you wear these?
I usually reserve dark wash for the colder months—though it’s been overcast and gloomy in NYC lately, so I think I will get a few more wears out of them before I put them away for winter (which is not to say they might not make a few appearances in the nightlife this summer!). I wore them for the review with a sheer peach blouse I found at Crossroads Trading the day before. I think the color combo is great.
How’s the fit?
They’re insanely comfortable and the fit is appropriately snug. I’ve been on a mid-rise/high-rise kick lately though, so I did spend my first wear wishing they would come up just a few inches more (making it easier to tuck the sheer top in). That aside, for my body type, Henry & Belle has never failed me!
Grab yourself a pair of these jeans here.

We stopped by the Jean.Machine men’s denim launch party in Soho last night at Recess, which took place in the midst of a gallery opening for artist Greg Eason. The jeans were laid out on a table in the middle of the room. The walls were lined with framed illustrations and a projector screen played fast-forward video of Eason’s illustration process. The atmosphere? Laid back and classic-cool, just like Jean.Machine’s denim. The female counterpart to MiH, Jean.Machine was the “it” denim shop in the 70s, and its rebirth is a representation of the original customer: “The man who loves to wear jeans.”
The line is carefully edited to go-to staples in an array of versatile washes (as well as raw options), all with a comfortable hand. The jeans feature key details like unique coin pocket, 17mm silver and copper logo button, 0.8mm single stitch hem, and the iconic Jean Machine label. Within three months of launching, they’re seeing the beginnings of a cult following.

Renee reviewed her pair of Doctrine Jeans high-waisted dark wash skinnies last week, and she loved them. Our blog editor Michelle Christina felt similarly, citing an amazing fit, comfort, and appealing wash as three reasons she’d wear them every day. After hanging out with Doctrine at the past few NYC trade shows and getting a feel for the line, we’ve begun to fall hard for their superior quality denim and fashion-forward silhouettes. MC provides the details below.
What was your first thought when you tried them on? It was my first time trying on Doctrine, so I was excited—I knew they were going to be amazing after getting my hands all over their jeans at Project and ENK. The feel of the fabric is crisp with a bit of stretch, but their luxurious and comfortable.
Where/when would you wear these? I love wearing them with a blazer like I did for this shoot. This winter I’d tuck a jewel tone blouse into them and wear some heeled boots or metallic flats. Big chunky jewelry also works super well with mid-to-high rise silhouettes.
How’s the fit? Just amazing. They’re the first pair of high-waisted jeans I’ve tried on that really flatter my figure. They’re designed for keeping it classy (and hide the right flaws).

Renee tried on Doctrine Jeans‘ high-rise dark wash skinny with a pair of brown leather boots and a crisp white top, for a late fall/early winter look that applies to work as well as it does after-hours. We’re big fans of Doctrine and we showed you a few things we’re looking forward to for spring in our lookbook & line preview post in October. Renee weighs in on this particular style below.
Where/when would you wear these? They’re my perfect tuck-in jeans. The stretch allows me to tuck in tops and the thick denim maintains smooth lines.

Known for producing some of the most aesthetically pleasing lookbooks on the market, Siwy‘s spring 2012 collection is presented in a slightly desaturated, high-contrast spread of fierce poses & killer eye makeup. Playing on their role as experts at sexy denim cut-offs, they show an array of denim shorts, from the gorgeous Camilla in gradient “Sunrise” or “Mixed Signals” wash to the classic looking rolled hem Cheyenne in “All I want” wash. Also making a statement are a palette of spring-appropriate colors in skinny jeans and flares, like the mint green Hannah jean in “Cool La La”, or its hot red counterpart, the “Yes I’m Ready” wash. You’ll also find universal crowd pleasers like medium dark-wash blue jeans with strategic fading, off-white minimal flares, and cropped/cuffed relaxed fit denim. Overall, a delicious delivery of best-sellers and must-have’s for post-snow season.

While out and about in NYC this weekend, we ran into Sarah, whose mustard yellow sweater and dark-wash denim cut-off shorts had us super-inspired for fall. The jewel tone top and destroyed cut-offs are a great mix of sweet vintage charm and downtown rock’n'roll. She finished off her look with a trucker hat and a layered striped shirt beneath the sleeveless sweater. Love it.

The time has come! American Apparel has officially launched a denim line. Comprised of four high-waisted styles that promise to “suck you in and smooth you out” (and you’re not alone if you felt a little dirty while reading that, considering recent legal troubles the company’s CEO is having with ex-employees suing him for sexual harassment), the moderately priced set include two different washes and a world of vintage pin-up possibilities. We’ve got your first look at the full lookbook below.
