If you’re spring cleaning your wardrobe (and looking to fill it with versatile must-haves), we’ve got the guide for you! We’ve come up with five denim staples that every woman should have in her wardrobe: a fitted pair of jeans, button-up shirt, polished shorts, trouser jeans, and a denim jacket. Pick-and-choose the wash or color that best fits your style, then grab these basics–they’ll last past your next closet purge.
The Fitted Jean
Whether you like your jeans super-skinny or prefer a slightly more straight-legged look, a fitted pair of jeans can be as sexy as you want it to be. Worn cuffed with heels for a dressier look, or paired with flats or sandals for a weekend outfit, the options are endless.
The Denim Button-Up Shirt
For a classic way to work denim-on-denim, wear with a denim button-up with jeans, or tuck into a pencil skirt to bridge the gap between casual and dressy at work. For summer, sling on a denim shirt, open and rumpled, over a sundress. It is a perfectly disheveled look, great for picnics and sunny days.

The Cuffed Denim Short
We love denim cut-offs as much as the next girl, but cuffed denim shorts are way more versatile. They look polished enough for slightly dressier occasions (granted, when paired with dressier tops and accessories), but you can also wear cuffed denims shorts to the beach and not feel overdressed.
The Trouser Jean
Sometimes, you have to give your legs room to breathe. Trouser jeans can be worn at work, but they also look great with platform heels outside of the office, or whenever you feel like your fitted jeans are just a little too tight for whoever you’re meeting up with.

The Classic Denim Jacket
There’s something to be said about the power of a classic denim jacket. It’s ready to be worn and torn (no, actually), and is quintessential Americana. Wear it to dress down outfits, wear it to add casual cool. Hey, denim jackets are the very definition of nonchalance.

Amanda Seyfried was seen out shopping in New York, dressed appropriately for the excruciating heat in J Brand Low-Rise Relaxed Fit Cuffed Short in Mako. She paired her ultra casual look with her hair pulled back into a bun and of course was accompanied by her best pooch pal. And we can’t forget to mention her super-comfy Manolo Blahnik toe-ring tassel sandals (which we envy, believe us). Summer days can’t be survived without some stylish Ray-Ban original wayfarer sunglasses, and a great white BCBGMAXAZRIA Malena burnout tee, and she’s got it all! Perhaps her next stop is Far Rockaway Beach?
