Featured Post: Pushing the Denim Envelope

How do you distinguish yourself from other denim wearers?  Well, if you’re Brandon Svarc, founder of the Canadian brand Naked & Famous, you make jeans that glow in the dark.  Or that smell like fruit.  Or the heaviest jeans in the world.  The 29-year-old is like the Heston Blumenthal of the denim world—he’s driven by discovering new sensations, and while most of us are content with the selection of quality jeans available at MenswearUK, not so for Mr Svarc.  ”If I get feedback that someone says they hate it, I know someone else is going to think it’s the greatest thing they’ve ever seen,” he told Fox News.

His latest creations, scratch-and-sniff  jeans that smells like raspberries ($150/£93) or his 32oz jeans—three times the weight of a normal pair ($495/£307)—reportedly the heaviest jeans in the world, are capable of standing upright on their own.   Why would anybody wear these jeans, you may ask.  ”I find that human beings are fascinated by anything that is a superlative,” says Svarc on his website. “Well, these jeans are my denim superlative.”

Featured Post: Where to Find Extended Size Jeans For Men

As we discussed last week about size options in jeans for men, we now know that we can certainly find stylish, basic men’s jeans for all men great and small.  But what about men of average height who may have muscular legs or an ample back side, but want to wear a pair of slim fit jeans that don’t make them look bulky?  Where can you find that straight leg jean that is actually straight (not relaxed) from thigh down to ankle?  Some premium denim brands like G-Star really know how to do it right.

However, if you need to find a larger waist size, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a place online that will carry a large assortment of outsize menswear (sizes above 36), let alone outsize jeans along with their regular offerings.  At Size Menswear, we found some moderately-priced Carhartt, Adidas Originals and a stiff pair of Humor jeans (you may have seen these online at ASOS) that will likely do the trick in a 32″ or 34″ inseam.  Size Menswear has made it easy for guys to shop for workwear, because they carry international brands in regular to wide waist jeans sizes.  By the way, international shipping is only £4.99 ($7.69).  Sweet, right?

Featured Post: How to Shop Big and Tall Mens Jeans

We at Denim Therapy are always talking about finding the perfect fit and style for people of any shape and size.  Let’s clarify a couple of things: when companies call themselves “big and tall,” it means they offer clothing for tall men, men who are just huge all-around, and stout men.  Think about those brawny or towering athletic types!  These size terms are often referred to as “extended sizes” or “outsize,” because they don’t fall within the “average” size range of stock that most retailers would carry.

Here’s an example of sizing options:

  • Inseams range from an extra short 27″ to a tall 36″ length.
  • Waistbands may start at 34″ around, and up to a 54″ waist.
  • And if the retailer does it right, they’ll also offer jeans that have larger waistbands and longer inseams—just bigger all around.

In the U.K., big and tall mens clothing retailer Jacamo, offers a fashion forward one-stop shopping experience with jeans moderately priced from £40.00 to £65.00.  In the U.S., large retail chains like Banana Republic have also expanded into the big & tall mens denim sector, and most other popular retailers only offer “tall” sizes (read: tall and slim).
