If you need the latest in fashion and can’t wait until it hits the stores, you’re in luck. Moda Operandi has arrived. The brainchild of Aslaug Magnusdottir and Lauren Santo Domingo, Moda Operandi is the first online luxury fashion retailer to allow members to pre-order tomorrow’s styles today through a flash trunkshow. We had the opportunity to speak with Co-Founder and style authority, Lauren Santo Domingo (a Vogue Contributing editor to say the least of her fashion expertise), to discuss her new business venture and gain you exclusive membership access to Moda Operandi!
Denim Therapy: Lets start from the beginning. What inspired you to get this Website off the ground? How exactly does it work?
Lauren Santo Domingo: The website has been a long time coming. We have been working on it for over a year and a half and launched during New York fashion week. My business partner and I had long wanted to go into business together but the world did not need another personal style or street style blog. Moda Operandi offers access to designer showrooms and allows members to shop like an editor; A privilege that I am lucky to have had.
DT: Tell us some designers that you carry and about the denim they offer?
LSD: We are gearing up for London fashion week right now… We have a great group of Brits like Erdem, Peter Pilotto, Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab. These collections showed to great reviews and hey are sometimes hard to come by. So our flash trunk shows are quite possibly the only place to secure these looks.
DT: What are some of your favorite denim brands? And where do you shop for them?
LSD: I love Stella McCartney for high waisted and Balenciaga for skinny jeans. Derek Lam did a fabulous high waisted jean for Spring, hat I am lusting after right now.

There is no doubt the brilliance of Nicholas Ghesqui??re’s out of bounds vision that shines more brightly every season. Forging towards the future while ironically capturing elements of the past, his use of mindful innovative materials and clever proportions always result in unique and extraordinary garments.
In this collection, Ghesqui??re has redefined what street style means to the ordinary fashion plate and delivers on another composition of technologically enhanced pieces: from afar it may seem like denim, but look closely to the patchworked jeans and you will discover that they are vegetable dyed leather, hoodies made of molded leather, dream weaver kilt-like skirts, super future shifts, and of course, his fantastical footwear – always the ultimate star landing for me – are once again crafted in complex ways, this time using hand-loomed fabric and leather. The overall look is a tribal street beat of Adam Ant reprised for the woman of 2010.
Let’s not forget that Balenciaga is a good way to stay the course on dieting as it is only for the slim ‘n’ slender. Bravo to Nicholas Ghesqui??re for another breath taking collection!
It is near impossible to try and attempt to put together a similar look, but drawing inspiration from the two toned patchwork jeans, I can offer these two alternatives: Jeggings
Superfine Jean Leggings , $170
Rag & Bone Jean Leggings, $225

Dree Hemingway, fashion's It Girl and "runway Twitterer." SOURCE: The New York Times.
Fashion’s latest It Girl, Dree Hemingway, caught my eye first with her interesting fringed sky-high black heels. As my mind processed her entire outfit further, it hit me that she’s sporting April 77 jeans! Yes, folks. Skinny jeans are still in. Very nice touch, young lady! Dubbed the “runway Twitterer” by Karin Nelson of The New York Times‘ Fashion & Style section, this girl is going places. Thank goodness for models who know how to dress themselves off the runway, not like some other It Girl models — I won’t name names — we’ve been seeing lately.
And thanks for the tip, Mariel Hemingway. If it wasn’t for my own Twitter addiction, I might not have seen this lovely shot!
SHOP THIS LOOK! APRIL 77 Joey Overdrive skinny raw jeans.

WHAT I??™M WEARING NOW A Balenciaga leather jacket, a flannel shirt from the Gap, April 77 jeans, Alexander Wang shoes, a YSL ring.
STYLE CREDO I??™m a pants girl. I just feel more comfortable in them. Lately I??™ve being trying on a lot of pantsuits, like the black Calvin Klein one I wore to their show. The trousers have a shorter Audrey Hepburn length, which I love. Mainly I wear jeans and a T-shirt, with a crazy shoe ??” the bigger, the better. I tried on the most amazing ones at Gucci. They??™re huge platforms with straps that go around the ankle. Phenomenal. Having an accent piece is good. That??™s basically all I do.
ON MY WISH LIST A Rick Owens leather jacket and a Proenza Schouler PS1 bag in python.

Ladies, when you’re out on the prowl dressed in your sexiest jeans, what’s the denim jean’s wing-man? Shoes, of course. Let’s talk about the perfect way to lure in that cute boy you’ve been eyeing with some captivating sexy footwear. Before you know it, you’ll have to beg the poor pup to “heel boy heel!”
Here are a few “IT” boots and shoes that are currently hot! In addition, more sizzling trends for the upcoming season as inspiration and lower priced alternatives to get your juices flowing!
Ice-Ice Baby! Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga had the mind blowing rubber and latex boot this F/W. These futuristically architectural boots are something that I would imagine wearing around in Superman’s ‘Fortress of Solitude’. Illuminating and avant garde, with these on you will be a force to reckon with! One trend to look out for this coming spring and summer are lucite heels. Check out Stella McCartney’s gorgeous lucite-heeled sandals from her S/S 09 collection (inquire at Stella McCartney stores for more info and price). I would go as minimal in dress as possible to showcase both the shoes and your oh-so-fine figure and derriere. Get a jump start on the jumpsuit trend and try these shoes with Thayer’s denim romper ($169, www.shopbop.com).
But for most of us, who’s kryptonite is the paralyzing recession, let’s take a look at more modest takes on the two styles. Nothing can compare to the Balenciagas so we won’t even try, but there are plenty of fashionable alternatives. If you want to invest in a pair of pricey shoes, make sure that they are either really special or classics that you can keep forever. Otherwise, ride the trend wave and shop around for the best inspired looks at bargain basement prices.
