The first thing we thought when we saw Armani Exchange‘s spring/summer 2012 lookbook was, “Wow, we could wear a lot of this stuff to work.” The bright orange cropped jeans and khakis look certifiably professional (especially when paired with heels, chiffon tops, and slouchy blazers). But this collection isn’t all work and no play–there’s a few summer weekend looks we’d love to cop. Denim shorts paired with a crochet knit top and aviators? We’ll see you at the beach.

To cap off its 20th Anniversary, A/X Armani Exchange created the A/X VIDEOMIX app, a fun music video-fashion show creator, which can be found in the bottomless pit of handheld games we know as iTunes. The app for the iPhone and iPad puts you in the director’s chair as you produce your own music video. Choose your model: Alessandra Ambrosio, Marlon Teixera, Francisco Lachowski, Milou Sluis and more; select your music track, backgrounds and A|X 20th Anniversary Collection looks, which feature a lot of denim styles. To get an idea what cool runway show you can create, check out Giorgio Armani’s VIDEOMIX creation, “The SuperShow”. It’s almost cool enough knowing that Armani himself fiddles around in iTunes. Check out the gallery for some featured looks you can animate, shop and share.
After the show has been viewed, users can “like,” comment and rate A|X VIDEOMIX creations, which will permit special access to behind the scenes videos, footage of models preparing for the show and more. To download the A/X VIDEOMIX application, go to iTunes online.

Armani Exchange has kicked things up a notch to revive the brand. Besides throwing huge celeb-studded parties to promote their new Neon Sun sunglasses line, there’s a roving ice cream truck (which looks like a taco truck) that shares frosty treats, giveaways and, of course, deals on denim. Fun! The truck had been cruising around Los Angeles this past week. Keep your eyes and ears open, because the A/X Denim Chill Truck could be rolling down a street near you.

Armani Exchange (A/X) has been selling denim since inception, and, I might add, pretty innovative denim looks over the years. They were the few in the beginning who dared to produce Heroin Chic skinny jeans and break away from the traditional, bootcut or straight leg jeans cuts. And now, A/X is adding a new premium denim line into the mix, for all those Giorgio Armani groupies (like me) who just can’t get enough of all things Armani. Every time I walk past an A/X, I always take a hard glance through the display window to see if anything was new and exciting. This time, I couldn’t help but notice a pair of premium men’s jeans on display that had an interesting tie-die/bleach effect. You know what it looks like when it is raining hard, and the water is just flowing down the window panes? That’s what I imagined when I saw those jeans. Medium-to-dark streaks of blue, of varying lengths, appeared to be smeared down the legs of those jeans. Like indigo rain. Stare-worthy jeans indeed.

If you’ve seen some of the Spring/Summer runway shows, then you know that beige, gray, tan, taupe and all those softer, neutral colors are grabbing the attention of style editors who are always out to find something a bit more unpredictable this summer. Besides metallic accessories and white-washed ensembles that usually surface in the summer, what couldn’t be more refreshing?
With economic recovery hopefully on its way, beige, tan or even natural hues — textiles that haven’t been chemically treated — offer a classic, economical and even eco-friendly solution to freshening up our wardrobes. These neutral colors are pretty adaptable for most skin tones, and easily coordinates with all shades of denim, which is great for mixing and matching. With summer brights and neon trends making waves in apparel, the muted and calmer tones provide an exciting contrast and balance to an otherwise ordinary ensemble.
