It’s taken for granted that jeans are a basic you can build off of. They’re the go-to staple that you can dress up with a killer blazer and jewels or dress down with a filmy tank top and flats. But sometimes jeans become the focal point on their own, and no additional frills are needed to nail a killer, effortless look. Mexican blogger Andy T. exhibits this concept beautifully with a pair of acid wash contrast-patchwork jeans (they’re H&M) and a basic black knit top, jacket, and boots.

Hudson Jeans showed a delicious palette of sorbet hues for their spring 2012 colored denim in vintage-inspired desaturated washes. The Nico super-skinny midrise was translated into everything from banana yellow to watermelon (can’t you almost taste them?), and also appeared in more classic light and dark blue washes. Among our favorite styles, an acid wash cropped skinny with an ankle zipper, dark-wash houndstooth-printed shorts, and a series of metallic coated jeans in silver, icy blue, and gold, which stylists are apparently pulling like crazy for spring editorials.
Not punk enough for you? They’re also running a paint-splatter jean and metallic snake skin skinnies for the party animals in the audience, and a gorgeous oversized feather-print motif white jean that will inevitably end up on numerous A-list celebs. Naturally we scoped out the new tuxedo pant as well, but we’re not as crazy about those. Believe us, the best color combos for that style are coming out in the summer! (We saw ‘em all, but we can’t give you the details yet.)
Look out for these gorgeous styles hitting stores in the spring, and if you just can’t wait, shop Hudson Jeans online today!

The ’90s have been back in action style-wise for a few years now thanks to a wave of nostalgia that made it okay to walk around major metropolitan areas dressed like Zack Morris again. But when you dig a little deeper past the idea of acid wash, neon, and trapper-keepers, you find that the most basic style lines and silhouettes of the ’90s actually did get left behind. And with good reason. Enjoy these vintage ’90s magazine ads (mostly for mass market brands) and the denim atrocities they have immortalized.

Hudson Jeans makes headlines. They’ve always got a fresh project going on, whether they’re casting stars for their campaigns, collaborating on high-tech textiles, or making big strides towards the wellbeing of women world-wide. Their deliveries are solid, on-trend, and worth looking forward to, and spring 2012 is no exception! When they showed us what’s in store post-snow and slush, we were overwhelmed with visions of spring and summer frivolity, thanks to a breezy pastel color palette, playful pinstripes, and vintage washed jeans with wide legs. They showed nautical stripes, acid washed cut-off shorts, and pop-color separates like a saturated peach tank top, too. Have a look at our favorite selections below.

After witnessing Jeremy Scott‘s spring 2012 collection coming down the runway at Milk Studios last season, we knew we had to get up close to the range of hyper-creative denim pieces. As usual, the collection runs the full gamut between ready-to-wear and not-quite-ready-for-this. Barring the ass-less chaps, in fact, the collection is highly wearable, and includes both multi-color striped jean material and a tamer, light wash option for each style. Extra-long fringe shorts and high-waisted skirts constructed from upside-down jeans provided adventurous, fashion-forward picks for the females. Speaking of which, we saw Rihanna’s lipstick stain on the denim corset she wore during her latest video shoot.
As you’d expect from Jeremy Scott’s over-active imagination, you have to think through wearing some of these during the day—but that’s the point: this collection is perfect for the new-age club kid (and the colorful crowd who never miss his runway shows). Overall skirts and standard button-down vests fill in the blanks between the avant garde, and while there are winged denim shoes that look more in-place in Harajuku than NYC, there are also a wing-less version that are super-chic. But our favorite element here is the idea of fashion being fun, a little silly, and genuinely bold. See the looks below.

We love Bleulab Reversible Denim (who wouldn’t love owning two pairs of jeans in one?) as you may have picked up while reading our recent reports on the line, and their transition into spring 2012 is the stuff dreams are made of. Whether you’re craving a classic faded dark wash jean or a candy-colored pastel hue, they’ve got you covered front to back. Pun intended. Metallics, faux-animal skins, and primary colors take the stage alongside acid wash, houndstooth print, and even florals. The range is wide and it’ll be hard to shop this line full of must-haves, but one thing’s for sure: whatever you choose, you’ll stand out in the crowd. Check out their latest lookbook below.

Welcome to your morning dose of denim news, links, sales, and everything else we couldn’t help but share. Check out what’s happening (and totally not happening) in the world of denim now. Got a tip you think we should include, a sale you want to share, or a style you just saw and can’t live without? Email us!
1. Want waterproof jeans? If you got caught in the NYC downpours of rain yesterday, you might be nodding. Turns out the Columbus Avenue Athleta has water-resistant skinny jeans (which isn’t exactly waterproof, but close enough).
2. Check out the latest denim styles from Obscene Jeans, including a white denim, acid wash, and dark-wash. Whether you want modern or classic style, they’ve got it covered.
3. Levi’s vintage clothing in miniature replica form. We can. not. stop. staring. at. this.
4. Apparently Barbie loves premium denim. Denim Hunt snapped these dolls at Target—a line called “Barbie Basics”, consisting of dolls dressed in premium denim, for about $20 each.
5. Looking for a pair of jeans to wear out at night this fall? The Leatherette by AG Jeans is a good bet. And they’re available for purchase now! Think ahead—these babies will be sold out before you know it.
