DT Loves: ASOS Marketplace

After years of public school education the association between September and that back-to-school anticipation has been burnt onto our synapses. This antsy feeling often results in a strong compulsion to get prepared for the changes autumn brings, in other words, binge-shopping. The women on the Denim Therapy team always turn first to ASOS to satisfy this urge. The UK online retailer started in 2000 and launched ASOS Marketplace in 2010. This new expansion to their site serves as a platform for independent boutiques to sell their goods. We try to support our fellow small businesses whenever we can and ASOS Marketplace is a pretty good place to start if you like the styles the online giant sells. Check out our favorite denim pieces for fall sold on the Marketplace below.

The History of Denim & Rock’n’Roll

Jeans and rock’n’roll have gone hand in hand since the dawn of the genre. From Mick Jagger‘s iconic denim jackets in the 60s to the shredded denim uniform of Nirvana in the 90s, denim has been the material of choice for some of the most famous rockstars in history. Levi’s Unzipped blog takes a look back at some of these stars, and their most iconic denim moments: the history of denim and rock’n’roll.

From Unzipped: The legendary grunge outfit Nirvana recently received its official induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame commemorating the 20th anniversary of the band’s iconic In Utero album. The band, in addition to producing universally lauded rock songs, was also known for making “angst” mainstream and defining an entire lifestyle of music—right down to the plaid and denim-addled wardrobe.

But Nirvana wasn’t the first rock act to don denim. Take a look at other royalties of rock who wore jeans while making music history. (See more)

Double Denim In ‘90s Propa Skincare Ad

Double denim is such a current, happening thing that you might forget how not cool it would have been to wear it two years ago.  Here to remind you of where this trend originated from is a ’90s ad for Propa PH, a skincare solution marketed towards young women. The young women pictured lounges in double denim, letting her friend in on the secret of how she got a date with the hottest guy in school. Her answer is the advertised product, but we bet it was actually her double D’s.

…Oh man, what a knee slapper!

Mood Board: Acid Wash Denim Inspiration

This week’s mood board is a tribute to the 90s phenomenon acid washed denim—it may have become big in the 90s, but you can’t escape it these days! Fashion blogs and retail sites prove that i’ s experiencing another intense reign over the world of denim trends, from hand-dyed DIY jeans and bags to high-end designer installments. This prime example of vintage-cool has affixed itself back onto the rock’n’roll lifestyle, and we can tell it won’t go anywhere soon.
