We know what you’re thinking… “another denim brand, hooray!” But before you even get excited, check out this innovative denim design and learn why you should really be impressed. Rue De Jeans offers something called a stealth patented design element. What appears to be a discreet black logo patch on the back of the waistband is actually much more than decorative: it conceals patented design technology that enables the jeans to fit like a glove and adjust with every movement. Intrigued? So are we. The Women’s and Men’s line comprises of classic denim in a variety of cuts and washes. Check out their website and read an exclusive Q&A with the brand below.
Denim Therapy: Lets start from the beginning. What inspired you to get this brand off the ground?
Rue De Jeans: Ever since I was a child, I had a strong passion for Fashion. Having a fashionista mom (former Miss Korea) definitely inspired and influenced me. RUE was created from my own experience as an international traveler. On a flight heading from Shanghai to LA, I conceptualized a trendy piece of denim with extra comfort, made from premium textile. After 8 months of trial period, RUE finally came out, based on finest quality of fabric and the best fit (that molds and shapes all body figures)!
DT: How do you differentiate yourself from the hundreds of popular denim brands afloat right now?
RDJ: Top known brands like Seven, Diesel, J Brand… we have all of their strengths. We’ve got good prices and comfortable jeans like Seven, super-trendy items like Diesel, and flawless fit like J Brand.
On top of this, we got this patented design technology on the waistline to set us apart. This patented discreet logo gives two inches of extra room and comfort. We even blind tested using 10 known denim brands with 10 different body types to ensure this was the best fitting jean we could create. We also offer top quality Italian and Japanese fabrics such as candiani, kurabo, kaihara, and selvage with detail-oriented designer top stitching and attention to detail. We would consider our denim as art work.
DT: Do you have any pre-designing rituals?
RDJ: Travel. Lots of travel visiting many different places.

DT: Describe your ideal target customer—the customer you have in mind when you’re planning a collection.
RDJ: International Jetsetter. More specifically, those looking for fashionable piece that’s easy to combine with other clothing in their wardrobe. Those who wish to dress up and down quickly, transferring their style from one country to another with ease.
DT: Can you give us hint about what’s next?
RDJ: High Waisted, Eco-Friendly, and Drop Crotch are upcoming!
DT: What would be your dream collaboration? Any plans of that in the future?
RDJ: We have started our t-shirts collaboration with Green Goods to create RUE’s vintage t-shirt and top line. Also, a denim collaboration with Japanese high end designer brands called wjk (www.wjk.jp) and Roen (www.roen.jp) will be teaming up with us to come up with collaborated fashion piece!
DT: What are the most popular washes/fits in the line?
RDJ: Our shiny black skinny is an easy-to-wear, sexy item for women. Our slim straight men Resin is an essential piece that’s always popular. We see lot of high waisted flare and moto for women being requested these days and drop crotch styles for men are getting popular too.
DT: Do you have any favorite/least favorite denim trends right now?
RDJ: My favorite denim trend always has been fashion forward yet timeless classic style. It is hard to find a denim piece that has these both two characteristic in it. Whether that’s skinny to high waisted, it has to have that style that can create the designer premium feel to it. As for the least favorite, I’d have to say anything mimicking someone else’s style or trend.
DT: Street style and style blogs are huge in the industry right now as a source of inspiration, influencing the high end labels rather than vice versa. How much does street style influence your designing?
RDJ: It definitely does influence our inspiration. Denim has always been street fashion. Our brand name, “Rue de Jeans” in french also means “Street of Jeans” thus, we believe the denim or fashion itself is rooted from the street. However, we could also be the brand inspiring the street style and also the style blogs as well. I believe it is in both ways of influencing each party’s inspirations creating the “Trend” itself.
DT: How many pairs of denim do YOU own?
RDJ: Over 100.
DT: Favorite celeb wearing your brand?
RDJ: Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Blake Lively, Backstreet Boys, soon to be much more!
