Left to right: Jefferson @ Badlands Rocker jeans, and The Ex-Boyfriend Jean.
Head Designer of Pylo Denim, Sean “Gypsy” Paul, is a man who describes his personal style as “out there,” but has design aesthetics that is inspired by American icons such as James Dean, Bob Marley and Bruce Lee. His easy-going voice betrays his enthusiasm and lust for details. Their tags even contain Braille. We are certain denim heads would love to pick his brain!
Just launched in 2010, the Pylo team was “looking for a blank canvas” to express themselves. Paul, a designer with over 13 years of experience, works with his team of veteran designers in Los Angeles.
DT: Does Pylo have a signature style?
SP: We have the Ex-Boyfriend Jean in selvedge denim. The cut is a hybrid of a Boyfriend and a Skinny jean. With an adjusted yoke and waist band support, your butt doesn’t sag. It’s a more flattering silhouette. Also, in our Yosemite Jegging, for example, we use a proprietary denim fabric that nobody else uses. The fit is amazing.
DT: What can you tell us about the denim washes?
SP: The Blue Ridge MotoXross jeans, for example, contain real stains. We work with one of the best wash houses in the country. There have been times I literally brought in a pound of dirt just so I can color match the shade to a wash.
DT: What do you think will be your hot seller?
SP: Lisa Kline is in love with our super short denim zipper shorts (Spring 2011). She was so excited about them that she tried them on, then and there, in her store. She has great legs!
