Balmain Spring 2011 collection is no different than any other collection designer, Christophe Decarnin, has shown and I mean it only in the sense that he always does it differently! This time, Decarnin, was launching a punk revival or “couture punk”. The models were shown wearing biker jackets and bustiers studded and covered in safety pins; tight, bleached jeans or shredded cut-offs; and holey T-shirts to match their torn fishnet stockings
We will have to wait and see if Balmains rock ‘n’ roll approach to fashion will remain a cult favorite-
But in the meantime you don’t have to be willing (or able) to pay mega bucks for a pair of jeans that is so DIY-
These TIPS from New York Design Shop show us how easy it is to create the look:
Note where you want the first slash to begin (try them on prior to beginning). Mark slash points at side seam with non- wax chalk or a marker if desired. Looks best when slashes on right/left legs are not symmetrical but haphazard or arbitrary.
Insert scissor tip in front of side seam and cut or slash (carefully) from one end to the other. Note that every slash adds ease and slashing the side seam will dramatically alter the fit.
Once slashes have been made, you can distress the edge of the denim, or throw them in the washer/dryer for a worn-in look.
Keep distressing… this doubles as a therapy session! Let out all of your stress on that denim.
Voila! Now, try them on.
