To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the long-time partnership between Adriano Goldschmied and Ron Herman, a special art installation entitled, “Mr. Sneakers,” has been put on display at Ron Herman‘s Melrose Avenue store. The name “Mr. Sneakers” refers to an endearing nickname given to Herman: “What Herman didn’t know until recently was that in Italy his blue trousers, white crisp button down and sneakers were an oddity and Goldschmied’s team began to call the store owner Mr. Sneakers. They would refer to him internally for orders, phone calls, payments; asking each other ‘Has Mr. Sneakers order been shipped?’” The piece was also produced in part for the recent WWD Denim Forum on May 10.
The art piece features more than 100 pairs of sneakers, a pair of Citizens of Humanity men’s jeans covered in resin and a birthday candle. A short film produced by Goldschmied tells the story of how the now great friends met and why the piece is referred to as “Mr. Sneakers”. The installation continues on display through the end of May. To view this exhibit, go to Ron Herman online for store information.
