Charlotte Ronson is somewhat of an industry sweetheart, and it’s not hard to see why. Standing apart from her rockstar siblings, she quickly established herself with her rock’n’roll fashion label, which took off swiftly after it launched. Ten years later, she’s become one of the most sought after American womenswear designers. Ronson is known for her impeccable style and tendency to set trends. Her clothing and accessories are fashion forward favorites amongst celebrities, models, and even us at Denim Therapy!
We had the chance to interview Ronson and ask a few questions…
DT: What made you want to design?
CR: I’ve always been drawn to fashion. I grew up with a very stylish mother that had her own sense of style and was always interested in style and fashion from a young age. When I was old enough I had an internship at Harper’s Bazaar which made me realize I wanted to be in the design world as a career.
DT: You have great style yourself so where does your inspiration come from in general and for this past collection?
CR: My inspiration comes from everything! It can be a movie or a photo or a book or even from just walking down the street. I’m an avid reader and movie-goer. For Spring 11 I was inspired by the androgynous 90s grunge aesthetic (think Kate Moss in the 90s) mixed with the bright colors, florals, and embroideries of spain.
DT: Why did you decide to incorporate denim?
CR: Denim is something that I’ve always wanted to incorporate into my collection but I wanted to make sure that we did it in our own special way. For spring we have a lot of washed out denim in dresses, shirts, etc. It’s lighter and works perfectly for warmer weather.
DT: What is your favorite piece from your collection?
CR: I always love our army jacket. I also love the cashmere sweaters, the hoodie and sweatshirt, and the flirty floral dresses.
DT: Do you have a favorite denim brand? And what is you favorite look to go with it?
CR: I wear a lot of Current Elliot as well as Cheap Monday. Balenciaga also makes great jeans. I tend to pair it with cozy cashmere sweaters, vintage soft tees, an army jacket. I also love stripes with denim.
DT: Do you have any go to shops for denim?
CR: I’ve been buying a lot of denim from Satine in LA recently. Also, Barney’s has a great denim selection.
DT: Is there a difference between Charlotte Ronson and your line for JC Penny?
CR: Yes definitely! First is the price. For I HEART Ronson nothing really retails for more than $100. It is definitely more trend driven and very seasonal as the deliveries are monthly. Charlotte Ronson is much more fashion forward and gives us a chance to experiment with new styles and fabrics.
DT: Can you tell us a bit about your next collection? Will there be any more denim shown?
CR: You’ll have to wait and see
DT: How do you feel about the future trends for denim?
CR: I don’t think denim is going anywhere! Everyone is always on the search for the perfect piece of denim whether it be shorts, jeans, miniskirts, etc. As people experiment with new denim styles and fabrications I think it will only get more popular.
