Denim Brand: Blue Notch Denim

Blue Notch denim jeans, instant love at first try on. This high quality denim brand is made of superfine super soft, body hugging denim. Not surprisingly, for their Fall 2009 collection, Blue Notch introduced some innovative fabrics, mixing denim with cashmere or linen, for a second skin, wrinkle-free fit. Ultra luxurious, and of course, they feel and look amazing on.

All the fabrics used for Blue Notch Jeans are made in Japan in the highest quality cotton from Egypt, Cameroon and Zimbabwe. As a socially and environmentally conscious brand, they not only follow their vision of being denim innovators, but also take special care to do their part in protecting the environment. One of the only denim houses in the world to have their own washing factory, they’ve chosen Korea, known for its purity of water where there are natural springs. Having their own washing factory enables Blue Notch to experiment with distressing, stoning, spraying, baking, coating, sanding, and battering to their hearts desire. But most importantly, they have built a filtering system that filters the water four times in their basement to protect the water and minimize their carbon footprint.

The Blue Notch collection consists of three fits: slim, straight leg, and skater-style drop crotch. My favorite pair is the Birkin Skinny. Denim jeans with a slick sheen in a silky soft denim that moves with you while making you look great. In addition, Blue Notch has trendy shirts, jackets and t-shirts.

Denim Desires: Number (N)ine Shearling Denim Jacket

Number (N)ine Denim, a Japanese label founded by Takahiro Miyashita has made their AW 2009 collection their last, but not without leaving us with some great pieces to desire.

Here is a great classic boa denim jacket with a notched shearling collar and flap pockets with an added whimisical flash of musical notes in the interior lining. The perfect toasty jacket to have for the cold days of winter. Hopefully, Number (N)ine) will come back in the future or perhaps Miyashita will launch a new label in the same spirit of Number (N)ine)!

Pure Plus

Kuyichi, named after a Peruvian rainbow god, is a denim label that launched in 2001 in the Netherlands. The first denim label to use organic cotton with three main objectives: to be authentic, fairly traded and most importantly, eco-friendly. Founded by Solidaridad, a Dutch NGO that fights poverty in the South by helping to set up sustainable supply chains and promoting fair trade products. Kuyichi strives to create a safe and healthy working environment with decent wages and respectable production lines, particularly in Peru, India and Turkey, with emphasis to anti- discrimination and exploitation policies relating to child labour. What is paramount to Kuyichi is their priority of making sure that their clothes are green uses hand picked organic cotton and dyed with indigo that is immediately recycled.

Currently , they have three denim lines: Pure Denim, Pure Plus (women’s), and their new denim line, Pure Premium. Pure Premium is the crème de la crème of their luxury and eco-friendly denims. Made of 100% organic cotton with a splash of hemp, vegetable dyes, hand washed and refined hardware, consists of four models of jeans (including one for kids), as well as tops, jackets and t-shirts. Sorry ladies, this line is only for the boys. Well, you can always convert a pair into boyfriend jeans, but if that’s not for you, be sure to check out Kuyichi’s Pure Plus or Pure lines.

DIY: Jean Skirt

Jean skirts are back in fashion this season. Update a typically bohemian or western look with a boyfriend jacket and ankle boots a la Nicky Hilton for a fresh, casual and edgy look.

D.I.Y. instructions to create your own Jean Skirt

(Source – Life & Style):

Tools needed: Scissors, tape measure, utility knife, sewing machine

Step 1: Cut jeans to desired skirt length

Step 2: Rip open the inseam (inside the legs) with a seam ripper or utility knife

Step 3: Use excess fabric (from the legs that were cut off) to make a patch insert.

Step 4: Sew patch onto inseams in front and back, then trim the hem so it’s even. Wash, dry and wear!

Tip: Jean skirts are great for showing off legs, so keep the length well above the knees. Skirts that are too long can look bulky and dowdy.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could make a wish to the Jean Genie for a pair of this seasons trendy cut-off jeans? Hell, I’d ask for every premium jean from here to Tokyo! Since that isn’t going to happen, here’s a way to breath new life into your old jeans. Copy the look that so many celebrities (Lindsay Lohan and Ashley Tisdale to name a few) are rocking. Show off those sexy gams of yours and sharpen those scissors of yours.

D.I.Y. instructions to create your own Jean Shorts

Tools needed: Tape measure, pen, scissors.

Step 1: Mark the length on the midthigh, adding an extra 1/2 inch for fraying.

Step 2: Cut straight across the legs with sharp scissors

Step 3: Machine-wash and dry to encourage frayed edges. the more jeans are washed, the more the fabric will unravel.

Tip: To get the best length, lay a favorite pair of shorts on top of the jeans and match up the crotch seams. Cut along the hemline.

Ever since I first saw the biker inspired bleached denim on the runway of Balmain, I knew this trend was going to be a hit, but I didn’t think it would hold up for so long. Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Beyoncé have rocked this look and so can you. Copy this look by D.I.Y. and revive the 80s in your wardrobe with homage to the late legendary Michael Jackson by pairing it up with a band inspired jacket (a la Balmain).

D.I.Y. instructions to create your own Tie-Dye/Bleached Jeans

Tools needed: Bleach, bucket, sponge, rubber gloves, newspaper

Step 1: Assemble tools and pour bleach into bucket.

Step 2: Stuff jeans with newspaper to keep bleach from seeping through to the other side.

Step 3: Using a sponge, dab and drip bleach onto jeans. Hang to dry for an hour . Wash and dry.

Step 4: Reapply bleach with sponge in additional areas. Hang to dry for three hours. Wash and dry again.

Tip: Make sure to choose a well-ventilated area, like a porch or driveway, because bleach gives off noxious fumes.
