DT Loves: ASOS Marketplace

After years of public school education the association between September and that back-to-school anticipation has been burnt onto our synapses. This antsy feeling often results in a strong compulsion to get prepared for the changes autumn brings, in other words, binge-shopping. The women on the Denim Therapy team always turn first to ASOS to satisfy this urge. The UK online retailer started in 2000 and launched ASOS Marketplace in 2010. This new expansion to their site serves as a platform for independent boutiques to sell their goods. We try to support our fellow small businesses whenever we can and ASOS Marketplace is a pretty good place to start if you like the styles the online giant sells. Check out our favorite denim pieces for fall sold on the Marketplace below.

Scroll for the denim lover’s guide to what to pack for the beach.

First off, you’ll need two pairs of cut-off shorts. One should be stylish (Think mis-rise and printed), and the other should be super comfy and casual.

1. Moto Ice Striped Hotpants 2. Moto Rubber Stripe Hotpants

1. Dolce & Gabbana Bikini 2. Missoni Reversible Bikini 3. Melissa Odabash Underwire Bikini

Next, you’ll need a few chic, versatile tanks to go over your bikini & shorts combo.  These can easily be rolled up and packed without taking up suitcase real estate.

For chilly nights on the beach, bring your favorite old (or new) well-worn denim trucker jacket.

Last but not least, a pair of chic (but easy to wear) sandals.

1. Sam Edelman Women’s Gable 2. Coconuts Women’s Terrain

Denim Therapy Gets Styled By Madewell Denim Roadtrip

Yesterday DT got styled and hair-braided as part of the Madewell Denim Roadtrip! Out of three options, Renee opted for a crown braid, dubbed “the rail straight,” and was then styled by the Madewell team. Renee’s wearing the boyjean in riding spur wash ($125). Sidenote: We had to share, these awesome green suede pumps are on sale now ($150) . The brand is taking an expertly branded Airstream (notice: the grey striped awning matched the grey striped clutch in Renee’s hands) across the country to promote their new denim line.

Denim Therapy Founder Francine Shares Her Go-To Denim Brands With

DT’s founder Francine called out her top ten favorite denim brands for‘s readers recently, listing Nudie Jeans, Genetic Denim, Doctrine Jeans, and Siwy Denim as some of her first choices (just to name a few).

“Know what’s a real bummer? When you wear a hole right into your favorite pair of jeans, rendering them unwearable. Enter FRANCINE RABINOVICH, whose brilliant company, Denim Therapy, can restitch any hole with matching thread (about $7 per inch). They also undertake all sorts of other useful enterprises, like inserting maternity bands, monogramming waistbands, and replacing zippers. Not only has Rabinovich encountered every conceivable type of jean brand out there, but she also has unfailingly great taste. (Check out her denim-centric blog, here.) To that end, we tapped her for her 10 favorites brands (and her preferred fits).”

Thoughts On Designer Denim Wardrobe Upgrades

One of our favorite style-based denim blogs to follow is Eat Sleep Denim, and they just posted up a personal encounter of one blogger’s awakening to the world of investing in designer jeans and upgrading their wardrobe with what was perhaps a previously looked-over textile. Sure, wearing denim can be an adventure in precise care, street cred, limited edition jeans hunting, and other complex sub-sports the varied textile offers consumers, but it’s also about scoring a pair of jeans in the name of style. Really, really good style.

“So I don’t know about you guys, but I always spend the last days of the year cleaning out my closet, throwing things in bags to sell or donate, and generally having a think about what I need (and what sartorial mistakes not to repeat in the coming year).

In 2011, I started writing for Eat Sleep Denim, and since then the denim stylings of Jennine, Taylor and the many featured bloggers has deepened my love for all things jean – but to be honest, it’s also opened my eyes to investing in designer denim.  For 2012, I’ve decided I’m going to stick to the basic silhouettes and styles in my “core” denim wardrobe (as shown above) – but I’m going to stop buying jeans I’m not totally in love with and start saving up.

Too many not-quite-right pairs went in my giveaway bin this year – and with all the sales going on right now, it would actually be more sensible for me to spend a little more for a pair I’ll wear non-stop. (This is true of the rest of my wardrobe too … I really had to stop and think if I’ve even worn any of my cheap “trendy” mall pieces more than once)…”
