Denim Therapy Gets Styled By Madewell Denim Roadtrip

Yesterday DT got styled and hair-braided as part of the Madewell Denim Roadtrip! Out of three options, Renee opted for a crown braid, dubbed “the rail straight,” and was then styled by the Madewell team. Renee’s wearing the boyjean in riding spur wash ($125). Sidenote: We had to share, these awesome green suede pumps are on sale now ($150) . The brand is taking an expertly branded Airstream (notice: the grey striped awning matched the grey striped clutch in Renee’s hands) across the country to promote their new denim line.

Denim Therapy Founder Francine Shares Her Go-To Denim Brands With Beso.com

DT’s founder Francine called out her top ten favorite denim brands for beso.com‘s readers recently, listing Nudie Jeans, Genetic Denim, Doctrine Jeans, and Siwy Denim as some of her first choices (just to name a few).

“Know what’s a real bummer? When you wear a hole right into your favorite pair of jeans, rendering them unwearable. Enter FRANCINE RABINOVICH, whose brilliant company, Denim Therapy, can restitch any hole with matching thread (about $7 per inch). They also undertake all sorts of other useful enterprises, like inserting maternity bands, monogramming waistbands, and replacing zippers. Not only has Rabinovich encountered every conceivable type of jean brand out there, but she also has unfailingly great taste. (Check out her denim-centric blog, here.) To that end, we tapped her for her 10 favorites brands (and her preferred fits).”

Thoughts On Designer Denim Wardrobe Upgrades

One of our favorite style-based denim blogs to follow is Eat Sleep Denim, and they just posted up a personal encounter of one blogger’s awakening to the world of investing in designer jeans and upgrading their wardrobe with what was perhaps a previously looked-over textile. Sure, wearing denim can be an adventure in precise care, street cred, limited edition jeans hunting, and other complex sub-sports the varied textile offers consumers, but it’s also about scoring a pair of jeans in the name of style. Really, really good style.

“So I don’t know about you guys, but I always spend the last days of the year cleaning out my closet, throwing things in bags to sell or donate, and generally having a think about what I need (and what sartorial mistakes not to repeat in the coming year).

In 2011, I started writing for Eat Sleep Denim, and since then the denim stylings of Jennine, Taylor and the many featured bloggers has deepened my love for all things jean – but to be honest, it’s also opened my eyes to investing in designer denim.  For 2012, I’ve decided I’m going to stick to the basic silhouettes and styles in my “core” denim wardrobe (as shown above) – but I’m going to stop buying jeans I’m not totally in love with and start saving up.

Too many not-quite-right pairs went in my giveaway bin this year – and with all the sales going on right now, it would actually be more sensible for me to spend a little more for a pair I’ll wear non-stop. (This is true of the rest of my wardrobe too … I really had to stop and think if I’ve even worn any of my cheap “trendy” mall pieces more than once)…”

Denim Resolutions For 2012: Care & Style

Whether or not you keep all of them, it’s never a bad idea to make a list of resolutions for the new year and hang them up somewhere to remind yourself what habits you should drop (or form). While we’re going to leave the “stop smoking/work out more/be nicer to Aunt Flo” resolutions up to you, we’ll give you a cheat sheet of denim-related resolutions to keep taped to the inside of your closet door. And of course, we’ll be here throughout the year if you need us to assist you in sticking to them.

2012 Resolutions For Denim Care

1. I will not wash my jeans after every wear. When I wash them, I’ll use Woolite to protect their color and consistency. If I have to wash my raw denim,  I will try heat, vinegar, and freezing before I resort to H2O. If washing just won’t remove the stink, I’ll put my vodka stash to good use.

2. I will not let my angry ex-lovers anywhere near my denim collection, nor will I ride my motorcycle in my most expensive pair of jeans.

3. I’ll take good care of my leather patches with the proper leather cleanser.

4. If I’m not a raw denim-head who loves blue jean bruises, I’ll soften my jeans the quick way.

5. I will monogram my jeans with my initials before lending them to jealous BFF’s who might claim they belong to them.

2012 Resolutions For Denim Style (For Women)

1. I will not have ill-fitting jeans. I will get them hemmed and tailored as needed so I look awesome!

2. I will buy lipstick that perfectly compliments my favorite pair of jeans.

3. I will choose jeans with pockets that make my butt look great.

4. When it’s time to let go of old jeans, I’ll donate them to make room for a better fitting pair that make me feel great.

5. I’ll give boyfriend jeans a try (or some other style I didn’t try in 2011).

2012 Resolutions For Denim Style (For Men)

1. I will not have ill-fitting jeans. I will get them hemmed and tailored as needed so I look awesome!

2. I will combine preppy, rockstar, and hip hop sensibilities for the perfect outfit.

3. I’ll wear a denim bowtie, at least once.

4. I’ll wear colored denim until I find my favorite color.

5. I’ll go beyond the generic denim workshirt, whether it’s stripes, embroidery, or mixing washes.

And as a bonus…

I’ll learn to say “jeans” in as many languages as possible!

Happy New Year!
