For summer, the classic denim jacket goes sleeveless and is refashioned into a jeans vest. Oh, but not just any run-of-the-mill denim vest. Put in the hands of style influencers like Elin Kling and popular fashion brands who court them, you get a versatile and elegant layering piece. Or not. You may find that these denim tops are really the stars. Pair it with your favorite maxi dress or floral shorts for a classy and refreshing take.
It’s probably our chilliest spring in years here in NYC, which raises the question of whether to dress for mid-day sun and heat, or morning/evening cool breezes and shade. A happy medium is a simple look pairing spring floral print jeans with a knit top and a black blazer, allowing you to remove layers and add them again as needed. Le Blog de Betty has always been a great source of layering inspiration, and this floral denim jeans look is now exception. Get this functional and stylish spring look below.
Ombre jeans are the perfect answer to your spring style dilemma: how do I update my look? Without going the way of intense patterns or neon hues, you can give your denim collection an update by adding a pair of ombre gradient jeans, like this pair of high-rise jeans pictured on street style blogger Katrina Bay of Pumps & Kicks below. Paired with a simple short sleeved top and a brimmed hat, it’s an instant casual-cool look you can wear from day to night effortlessly.
J Brand‘s latest releases include pastel and neon colored jeans, as well as medium-wash blue jean shorts and destroyed white denim cut-offs. The combination of colors and textures add up to equal fresh summer style! Their denim legging capris come in hot pink and lemon yellow, featuring a side zip. The subdued light wash skinny jean is a summer basic that translates from work to leisure with ease. Finally, their cut-off shorts are fun and versatile. The only problem with this collection will be selecting which pieces to buy!
Ladies and gents, MC has a new favorite pair of jeans. The latest offerings from Williamsburg Garment Company—remember when Renee reviewed their skinny jeans as a day-to-night staple?—include a medium-wash stretch denim high-waisted skinny for women. These jeans get the high score for holding flawless shape a full day of flea market prowling and a full night of dancing. They also possess the eternally sought-after slimming effect and cool details for denim-geeks to gawk at.
What was your first thought when you tried them on?
It was “Yesssss. Come to mama.” I also noticed the well proportioned back pockets (pocket size can really wreak havoc on a gal’s attempts to appear slimmer) and the cool side pocket stitching detail when I looked in the mirror. I love subtle design points that set a pair of jeans apart.
Where/when would you wear these?
I wore them to the flea market and strolling around Brooklyn, to brunch, to an insane all night dance party… no stretch or sag in the fabric. They looked and felt great. I’d wear these anywhere. I expect to get a lot of miles out of them this spring.
How’s the fit?
Love the high-rise, love the tight fit around the hips/behind, and knees. They have enough stretch for comfort but they still feel like denim, which is rare with women’s jeans. Too often it’s a free-for-all spandex blend jegging party. It’s hard to find the right balance. Aside from the feel of the fit, I was told they look great but friends and strangers while wearing them, so that probably counts for something.

Check out this video of Raleigh Denim‘s Fall 2013 presentation. Raleigh Denim‘s FW13 presentation was the perfect sequel to their last spring showing. Each season they edge a bit more towards crisply tailored sportswear and Americana-inspired looks that modern and sleek. Designers Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko understand that their customer wants a combination of classic concepts and cutting edge style, which can be seen in each ensemble below. Our favorite looks included bleached, overdyed stone grey women’s jeans, a two-tone wax canvas jacket, washed wax coated jeans, and a blue tweed deconstructed blazer.
We dropped in the American Eagle & Aerie fall 2013 preview yesterday for a pastry and some AM fashion-gazing. The ever-expanding line has amp’d up selection in both the men’s and women’s departments. We were especially delighted to see a carefully played bohemian influence in the styling of chic denim separates, flirty scarves, and gorgeous jewelry. This season we’re loving the returning Artist fit jean for women who want to edge towards flare leg while keeping it chic. Check out the full preview below!

Denim heads will appreciate taking a peek inside the archival vaults of 100-year old garments, barely holding together in an acid-free shroud. Design Director Miles Johnson and his team documents vintage garments to faithfully capture “the spirit and heritage of American work wear,” from the San Francisco vaults, and recreates them at the LVC Amsterdam headquarters. You don’t have to go that far to get your hands on a Levi’s reproduction. Mr Porter carries some covetable denim pieces you can wear, now. Scroll down to watch the video.
