70s Denim Style: Romance & Flared Legs

When it comes to denim trends from eras past, the ’70s had it all. From gorgeous faded washes to embroidery and romantic silhouettes, there are countless ideas to draw from. Self Service Magazine published an inspiring and sexy editorial for spring 2015, featuring model Malgosia Bela in high waisted, flare-leg jeans and worn-in tees, with a dash of luxe crochet and summer separates. Photographer Angelo Pennetta captured this perfectly nostalgic image of carefree glamour, making us crave summer (and maybe a viewing of Boogie nights) more than ever.

We’re In love! Frame Denim FW’15

The Frame Denim Fall/Winter 2015 collection was launched with the same concept the brand was born from: chic wardrobe essentials, inspired by the heritage of denim manufacturing in Los Angeles. The fully fleshed-out ready-to-wear collection consisted of effortless pieces like stovepipe cropped jeans, high-waisted flare leg jeans (love flare legs? They’re on the rise again!), a totally wearable jumpsuit, and a perfect denim skirt that mimics the silhouette of a denim jacket tied around the waist. See the whole collection here.

Distressed Denim, A to Z

How do you like your distressed denim? Epic gaping holes, or a bit of scratching up here-and-there? There are benefits to each level of shred, from being able to sneak a pair of jeans into the office, to some extra AC on warmer spring days. However, we’ve found that most people prefer one extreme to the other. Check out this full spectrum shoppable round-up of distressed denim, and don’t forget to check this out if you’re thinking of doing some DIY distressing of your own.

High Fashion Tips From The Edit’s Denim Issue

Net-A-Porter‘s curated e-magazine, The Edit, is all about denim this issue. Focusing on the versatility of our favorite textile, Editor Jennifer Dickinson comments, “Fashion is one of the few industries where denim is an acceptable part of the working wardrobe. Or it was – this season, with Valentino, Tomas Maier and Victoria Beckham adding our favorite fabric to their runway repertoire, even city offices can get theblues.” See the whole issue here.

Add A Touch Of Boho With Embroidered Vintage Denim

What’s better than a pair of perfectly worn-in vintage jeans? Bliss & Mischief has the answer to that: just add embroidery. While “embroidered vintage denim” may call to mind images of haphazard hippie stitching from the 70s (which is also kind of awesome, admit it!) Bliss & Mischief has taken this concept to level of grade-A stylish. Their vintage Levi’s collection of jeans and jackets have been treated with inspired embroidery that is both precious to behold and instantly bad ass when styled with basics like crisp white button-downs and understated gold jewelry. Check them out and shop online.

Denim Review: Jen7 Slim Straight Skinny Jeans

Pop quiz: did you get your perfect pair of black skinny jeans for fall yet? If not, check out one pair we’re really fond of right now. MC reviewed a pair of Jen7 skinny jeans in black to see how they held up during a busy day in NYC, and they passed the test. If you haven’t heard about the new bran Jen7 Jeans yet, you will soon. It’s a  new line designed “by women, for women”, via 7 for All Mankind. Get the details on this pair, below.

jen7-denim-review-01

What was your first thought when you tried them on?

My first thought was how versatile they are, being a pair of black skinny jeans and all. I loved how they fit with my favorite fall boots, and after pairing them with a ton of tops in my wardrobe, I feel confident I’ll be getting some good mileage out of them.

Where/when would you wear these?

These are the ideal wear-to-work jeans, because they’re both comfortable and sleek looking. You can dress them down for a chill day, add some killer heels for a night out, or pair them with a blazer for the office. Pieces that fit into my wardrobe need to pull their weight and function in more than one situation, and these jeans definitely pass the test.

How’s the fit?

Awesome! They didn’t stretch out or lose shape after a full day of wearing them on errand runs and meetings. I love how they look and feel, from waistband to ankle. One of the objectives of this line is to make women feel amazing in their jeans, and I think they’re on to something.
