Junya Watanabe MAN/Levi’s

Junya Watanabe’s MAN collection has some amazing pieces for this season.  In addition, he has a gorgeous jean out from his brilliant ongoing collaboration with Levi’s called the Printed Jean available now at TRÈS BIEN SHOP.

Let’s be honest here, so many designers have done collaborations with Levi’s, but in my opinion, Watanabe outshines the rest.  If you are willing to drop a cool $762 for a pair of jeans, I would go for these over the “inspired by” replica of Levi’s vintage 501’s that Evisu is coming out with.

Junya Watanabe X Levi’s – Printed Jeans, $762.00

Printed denim jeans from Junya Watanabe x Levi’s. These lightweight thin denim jeans have a low rise, drop crotch, and relaxed fit. The back of the pants is a standard pair of Levi’s 501 but the front is made from a super soft, thin cotton fabric printed on the front with the trompe d’oeil image of a pair of distressed jeans. The entire pants is lined with a striped oxford cotton that shows when you roll up. They feature contrast white stitching, belt loops, streamlined five pockets, and a zip fly.  Comes in Small, Medium and Large. Made in Japan.

Junya Watanabe MAN – Ginham Checked Shirt, $452.00

Straight fitted shirt from Junya Watanabe in an amazingly soft gingham checked cotton. White contrast collar and cuffs and rounded hem. The buttons are slightly larger than a standard button for a more special look. Made in Japan.

Brogue

Junya Watanabe X Tricker’s – Semi Brogue, $650.00 (picture with the Printed Jeans)

This is not the first time Watanabe San teams up with UK shoe masters Tricker’s but that does not matter at all. The collaboration keeps getting better and better for every season. Here’s a super chunky half brogue in soft calf leather and red leather lining. Goodyear commando sole and metal eyelets. Very limited numbers on this one. Delivers with dust bag and a can of Tricker’s shoe polish.

Looks like denim but is actually made in all wool. Tight fit and pockets on the outside. Flip it around and wear it with the red and white gingham on the outside. Made in Japan.

My absolute favorite from this collection, the quintessential sihouette of Lanvin with the one shoulder, ruching and draping.  This summery one shoulder dress is in soft Japanese light weight denim with ruched left shoulder with drapes running across the bust towards a gathered waist. A flower made of raw edged denim fabric adorns the chest.  My perfect cocktail dress!

The must have item that will stand up to the test of time is this elegant pencil skirt in fine Japanese denim. Closes at side with a zipper hidden by pleated details. The side detail fabric is attached at the waist with a press button.

Denim Finds: Target + Liberty of London

When I attended Target’s first pop-up shop initiative in 2008 titled Bullseye Bodegas with featured limited edition fashion collaborations with designers: Anya Hindmarch, Sigerson Morrison, Jonathan Saunders and Converse, I decided, going forward, that I would wait until it hit stores for a calmer shopping experience. It was sheer mayhem!

Well, who would have known that the Target + Liberty of London’s pop-up shop would sell out by their second day forcing them to close up shop that evening.  Oh woe is me, I never had a fighting chance to purchase the lovely Liberty of London bicycle that I so wanted.  The limited offerings are now available on-line and in participating Target stores, but buyer beware, not a whole lot left.  Oh woe is me.

Wear It Now: Cropped Jeans


Cropped jeans have traditionally been the staple denim fixture for fair weather days, especially in the summer.  I mean, why would you wear cropped jeans when it’s probably snowing, raining or typhooning outside your window?  Is there such a thing as ankle frostbite?

As we experience the last weeks of winter, there’s no time like the present for breaking into your spring denim reserve to lay out your month’s worth of cropped looks.  Work your Ankle and Capri style jeans.  I don’t recommend Clamdiggers or Bermudas, as they’re just too short.

And this is why we wear platform booties and heels.  They are your new best accessory.  I love how your jeans look when they meet with your booties, above the ankles!

On the short side?  Wear your petite jeans or roll up your denim.  Rock the platforms.  The look balances out your legs and creates an elongated illusion.  Fashion can be functional, contrary to traditional belief.

Denim News: Levi’s Denim Doppelgänger

Would you pay $758 for a pair of replicated vintage Levi’s jeans reincarnated by another brand?  The Japanese label Evisu sure thinks so.  A limited edition range under the Evisu Private Stock label, pays homage to three original vintage styles by Levi’s.  The three styles to be sold mirror the images of Levi’s 1944 501 jeans (500 pairs at $358 each), the 1890 “Nevada” jeans (250 pairs at $558 each), and the 1917 “Campbell” jeans (100 pairs at $758).

Each pair of jeans is packaged in an elaborate wooden box and will be available at select specialty stores in August, including Barneys New York, American Rag, Fred Segal, Atrium and evisu.com.

“The Private Stock collection is a showcase for Evisu to retell the story of some of denim history’s most iconic jeans,” said Scott Morrison, chief executive officer of Evisu. “We’re not remaking a Levi’s jean, nor are we claiming that this is a Levi’s jean. We’re merely taking inspiration from our past and paying homage to one of the oldest, or historically relevant, jeans in existence, which in this case happens to have been an amazing pair of Levi’s. Denim has a wonderful story to tell and as denim designers you can’t help but find ideas for the future by looking in the past.” (WWD)

Well, let’s see what the outcome is after Levi’s investigates the details of these “inspired” jeans.  It will either be a nod of flattery or the denim demons will have to put an end to this.
