Rag & Bone Video Exclusive: Inside the Line With the Designers + Lily Aldridge

It’s a fun fashion music video, shot in NYC and featuring Rag & Bone designers David Neville, Marcus Wainwright and model Lily Aldridge. Produced by Shopbop, the video has a vintage home movie feel to it. It doesn’t really tell you anything specific about the line, so you’ll have to pause and rewind to get a good look for yourself.

Rachel Bilson Stole My Denim Jacket

Rachel Bilson in the classic denim jacket. Photo via Hollywood Tuna.

Last weekend in Los Angeles: Rachel Bilson pairs her retro Wayfarers with the classic denim jacket. The shirt is the Milla Boyfriend Tee by Market. Photo via Hollywood Tuna.

I have gotten tired of the classic denim jacket.  Given: the cut is slimming to the waist line and complementary to this season’s Jegging (a.k.a. denim leggings) trend.  The classic denim jacket has proven its durability in the fashion cycle of life.  However, it sits in my closet, waiting for a day when I get inspired to throw it on to complete an outfit that is likely meant for casual shopping, weekend lunch dates or a trip to the boardwalk.  Alas, that day has arrived.  But, wait.  It seems that my girl Rachel Bilson stole my idea jacket and has gone ahead to Rodeo Drive without me.  How dare she!  She won’t get away with it for long.  I’ve got my eyes on her fave Chloe bag.  Let the hostage negotiations begin.

Introducing BLACKBIRD’s The Hazlewood in Raw Indigo

Blackbird slim Hazlewood Jean.

Blackbird slim Hazlewood Jean.

Seattle-based Blackbird boutique has just released their new Hazlewood Jean, a dark and slim unisex number, made lovingly for denim aficionados who care about every detail:

- MADE IN U.S.A.
- 5-Pocket jean
- Raw Cone denim in extra dark indigo
- Dirty dark brown/gold stitching
- All black unbranded hardware
- Black leather label hand-stamped by Blackbird goons
- Extra tough over-stitched belt loops, and
- Chain-stitched hem in varied lengths.

Size down for best fit.

From the looks of it, the Hazlewood is cut with a slimmer thigh than, say, Nudie’s Slim Kim, another unisex jean.

This jean was inspired by Ballard bar Hazlewood (think Lee Hazlewood) and its owner Drew Church.  A few years ago, Drew created a Blackbird cocktail which contains squid ink and remains a staple drink to-date. Hazlewood is about the size of a postage stamp and generally where you will find the Blackbird gang and our favorite customers sipping old-timey inspired creations. As a follow-up to the Sunset Hotel Jean, this style bears the same universal ‘fits anyone’ slim cut as its predecessor with the differences residing in the details.

Currently sold at The Field House and at BLACKBIRD.

Denim News: J Brand and Proenza Schouler Collaborate On Exclusive Jeans For Fall/Winter 2010

Ah yes, J Brand certainly keeps us denim lovers on our toes.  Their latest collaboration is with none other than Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the duo who make up Proenza Schouler.

“We are extremely excited to work with Lazaro and Jack. They have great vision, a point of view, are incredibly talented and fun to work with,” said Jeff Rudes, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of J Brand.

“Everyone we know wears J Brand. It was an easy choice,” continued Hernandez and McCollough.

Proenza Schouler debuted a Fall 2010 exclusive denim collaboration with J Brand jeans at the Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2010 runway show last night at New York Fashion Week. This one season collaboration marks the first ever jean produced by Proenza Schouler.  Featured on the runway was a graphic-printed, exaggerated high rise skinny jean in 11 oz. Japanese stretch denim, which was further hand painted to accentuate texture and dimension.

“For fall 2010 we are exploring ideas closer to home. Urban elements are important as is the idea of uniforms. Denim fits the bill as the most ubiquitous item in most people’s wardrobe. Proenza Schouler will for the first time, explore this classic element, never-the-less infusing it with the Proenza Schouler DNA,”said Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler.

The jean collection will be available in exclusive specialty stores mid-July.

Jeans For Your New iPad

iBap - jeans for your new iPad.

Not!  Chicago illustration and design collective OhNo!Doom has posed the question: how will fashion change around our increasing addiction to and reliance of technology?  The iBap (iGotaBigAssPocket) concept sends “a message about the future of mobile devices and its portability by combining fashion with function… humorously.”

So far, the fashion world, for the most part, has functioned independently, with some exceptions, such as the mass-marketed Nike and iPod collaboration.  I wouldn’t put it past some denim designers out there to produce kangaroo-like back pockets for your jeans, or smart phone-friendly pockets that look cooler than the ones already available for some slacks.  Not sure the boss upstairs at Denim Therapy would be willing to add iPad pockets for your beloved jeans.  It might be denim abuse.

OhNo!Doom are a Chicago collective that combines our skills for a greater-good, like a Wu-Tang Clan made up of illustrators and designers. Pooling our resources, OhNo!Doom uses its weight and influence to give its memberartists increased exposure and opportunities. In addition to the collective’s designer toy line, OhNo!Doom also operates a gallery space to showcase its members work as well as other artists, proving that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
