You think the peplum trend is going away? Think again. It Girl Hanneli Mustaparta shows us how to get the look for fall and winter with a few key wardrobe essentials for keeping those flirty ruffles in your street style repertoire. Keep The Beat, Mango‘s style blog, says: “The secret with peplum is to combine it with a skinny trouser, denim or otherwise. The added touch of the gloves gives the look a more feminine edge, while a good heeled shoe streamlines the figure. And we must not overlook the oversized bag either, ideal for carrying all your things.”

Gwen Stefani likes to push the envelope when it comes to fashion, and she’s no different with denim. And, we think she did alright with this Norma Kamali denim on denim ensemble: a slim fitting denim jacket with a drop hem tail, and skinny jeans with an unusual diagonal zipper close. Stefani was snapped in Paris, while heading to a TV appearance. We think the secret to rocking any double denim look is a custom fit. We’d like to think Denim Therapy had something to do with how her denim jacket and skinny jeans fit on her like a glove (off the rack, the crotch hangs lower), but not this time. By the way, Ms. Stefani (or do you prefer Mrs. Rossdale?), if you’re reading this, have your people give us a call. We’ll hook you up with one of our expert services for your next public appearance. Just sayin’.

Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel was snapped in Miami wearing our favorite trend from last spring/summer, mint green jeans. She cuffed the brightly colored denim and wore a pair of simple flats and a t-shirt, making us feel that somehow, summer isn’t as long gone as we felt it was. Want this look? We love this pair from Hudson.

Metallics are one trend that reappear each time fall rolls around, and we’re not complaining. A shot of pewter or bronze in an outfit can add just the right edge, whether it’s the coating on your jeans or a more dramatic piece, like this metallic silver skirt. What do we love about this skirt in particular? It’s under $50. Worn with a chambray denim workshirt and some serious heels, it becomes a head-turning look that will take you from day to night without a hitch.

Denim workshirts are the all-purpose instant dash of cool in your closet, and there’s no better time to wear them than fall. But if you’re looking to put a twist on an already awesome classic, try this quick DIY cut-out project.
Trace out style lines (whether you want to cut out a huge chunk as shown, or smaller slices) in chalk or by thread-basting, on your denim workshirt. Then, get a nice sharp pair of fabric scissors (we love Gingher), and slowly cut along your lines, removing the denim from your workspace.
…That’s it! How did yours turn out? Let us know on facebook!
