What To Wear: Denim Jackets x Spring Dresses

A spring outfit combo for women that just can’t go wrong? Denim jackets and pretty spring dresses. We dropped the hint in our denim dose this morning, and this time we’ll say it with gusto: pairing something pretty with something a little rock’n'roll, a little industrial, a little bad-ass? That equals a balanced, nicely contrasted look (which translates into stylish intrigue). Kristin Cavallari illustrated this point perfectly when she recently wore a cropped Levi’s jacket over a long white dress. Perfection. Check out a few of our favorite pairings below.

Francine Reviews The Black Orchid Jewel Mid Rise Jegging

DT’s founder Francine recently got herself into a pair of Black Orchid Jewel Mid Rise Jeggings—similar to the mint green version Kim Kardashian favors in her endless denim collection—and she let us know what she thinks about ‘em! Scroll to find out if they meet her standards for style, fit, and versatility.

What was your first thought when you tried them on?

I love the color and love the fit. I’ve definitely become a mid-rise type of girl and these jeans are perfect in that regard.

Where/when would you wear these?

They’re versatile—they’re fun because of the bright color but they can be styled to look a little more serious. The color might even be intimidating if these jeans walked into a meeting… But definitely day or night, and all four season!

How’s the fit?

LOVE the fit. They are both comfortable and flattering, and most importantly, they don’t lose their shape after a few hours of wearing them.

Hand-Bleached Raw Selvedge Jeans For Men = Awesome

Hixsept Stranger Hand Bleached Jeans are setting a new standard for standing out in men’s denim (and forget about embellishments. Forget they ever, ever existed). These hand-bleached raw selvedge jeans are one of a kind due to the nature of their individual modification. We love a good DIY. But as Selectism so accurately reminds us, “Of course, you could use your own hands and a bucket of bleach on a pair of your own jeans, but the odds seem incredibly slim that you would be able to forge bleach spots that look like exploding nebula”.

Denim Lovers Will Stop At Nothing To Keep Their Favorite Jeans Alive

We received this pair of donations in the office last week—an elaborate DIY patchwork of fabrics and denim, torn and re-sewn, pulled together to the bitter end. This is love, people! This is denim addiction. But is this the best way to fix your jeans? Nope. We admire the effort… but our expert denim repair therapists can give them a better shot at life.

Have a pair of jeans you want to give a second shot at life? Rather than going the above route, we suggest sending them to our expert denim repair therapists for hole repair, reinforcement, tailoring, hemming, and everything a needy pair of jeans could want.

Go Funky With Topshop Women’s Denim Lookbook S/S 2012

There’s no stodgy styling in the spring/summer 2012 lookbook for Topshop’s denim line for ladies and we’re super-glad. The funky fresh outfits would be perfect for a summer music festival or a day-to-night beach look. Guess we’re not the only ones planning for summer already! Based on these images, we have an excellent variety to look forward to: floral, metallic, faded, and colored jeans galore. Plus, bedazzled shorts, highlighter-saturated jackets, and tie-dye denim vests. All of these pieces work together with a slightly hip-hop vibe, a colorful break in neutral toned monotony.

MC Reviews The Fidelity Denim Koro Flare In Nautical Blue

DT blog editor Michelle Christina reviews her second pair of Fidelity Denim jeans (the first being the Ace Skinny Jean in Ginza Black) and her second pair of flare-leg jeans since junior high (the first being the MiH flare-leg Marrakesh in Reed). Scroll to find out whether these dark-wash beauties pass the comfort, fit, and wear-ability test!

Check them out below:

What was your first thought when you tried them on?

My first thought was that they’ll be needing a quick hem job via Denim Therapy’s hemming service! But my second thought was “these are more comfortable than sweatpants!”

Where/when would you wear these?

Despite the extreme comfort, they have the DNA of denim, so they’re perfect for lounging but ideal for dressing up with a silk blouse & some baubles. I’m really into the idea of transforming them into a nautical look with some sailor stripes and my anchor earrings.

How’s the fit?

In general they’re a great fit—comfortable and flattering. I might have them taken in a bit above the knees where there’s some excess to maximize the silhouette. I wore them all weekend and I haven’t experienced any permanent stretch in the fabric. After my love affair with the Ace Skinny in Ginza and this new denim crush’o'mine, I think Fidelity is becoming a new favorite brand.

Toh! Magazine Editorial Mixes High & Low Mens’ Denim

Italian magazine TOH! takes us inside the hotel room of a young party boy, styled in a mix of high-and-low denim brands for their latest editorial, “Blue Jeans Baby.”  The international mix of established American labels (Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Polo Ralph Lauren and Wrangler) is paired with international labels (Frankie Morello, Love Moschino, Vivienne Westwood Anglomania by Lee and Uniqlo).  Its rebellious devil-may-care message seems to send the simple message that it’s not about the label. It’s about the denim.  By the way, TOH! (which translates from togliere, meaning to remove or to take away) begs the question: what are you taking away from this editorial?
