Who says that denim can’t be the starting point for rad art? Attitude had the great idea of distributing ten classic denim jackets to ten different artists–from graffiti artist Mr. Shiz to multimedia artist Danny Sangra–and then photographing the results. The aptly-named “Ten Jackets by Ten Artists” editorial in the magazine’s January 2012 issue shows us jackets that are so not the norm; they’ve been spray-painted, dyed, studded, and reworked in nearly every manner possible. Check out all of the funky fresh looks below!

1. Intermix posted up a sneak peek at rag & bone for Spring/Summer 2012 on their facebook. Lots of bright colors!
2. Watch this rad video coined “For The Love Of Denim”, starring Donwan Harrell (designer/founder of PRPS), as he talks about what makes the denim industry unique, and what he loves about designing.
3. Rihanna was recently photographed wearing a neon denim jacket from J Brand x Christopher Kane collection… as a beach wrap! We like this idea.
4. Ernest Alexander is having a great sale on denim workshirts for men right now (and there’s nothing stopping the ladies from grabbing one too). You’ll get $33 off each shirt purchase (no limit) when you use the code BUTTONDOWN at checkout.
5. There’s a denim editorial from Vogue China February 2012 that caught our eye recently—we’re not really into the styling on the whole, but there is one denim skirt in there that has us dying for some floor-length light-wash action.

Jessica Alba was spotted in the MiH Jeans Aztec Jacket in Multi and the Classic Shirt in Star Print Silk while strolling LA on January 24th. The jacket is gorgeous (made from hand woven Japanese fabric) and works well with any wash or hue of denim, though the price tag ($495) might mean it’s the one thing you invest in for spring. The shirt retails at $275 and is an adorable alternative to your classic button-down.

For their spring/summer collection, BLEND isn’t going the sunny, sherbet-tinged route that we all know and expect (but still love!). Instead of designing for a day at the beach, the European brand is channeling Parisian springtime. Imagine traipsing through verdant lawns and sunny skies in their slightly boyish outfits, topped off with a precisely applied pop of red lipstick. Sounds great, right? The line focuses on pared down looks, from a dark-rinse A-line dress to gamine-approved cuffed skinnies and striped shirts. The menswear selection is equally cool, drawing inspiration from New England dockyard workers, but looks no less polished. You can tell they’d go great together!

Twelveounce Denim Lab is a men’s denim line that sources all of their fabrics from the esteemed Japanese Kaihara denim mill, hand-crafting their jeans in LA before releasing them into the market. At first look, the unique back pocket shape & zip detail and a tailored-yet-rugged aesthetic set them apart. The jeans come in three basic cuts: the skinny, the boot, and the straight leg (we’re partial to the skinny), and options for washes include Kaihara Indigo, Kaihara Midnight, and Kaihara Slate. The gents of Denim Therapy will be trying these on first-hand to let you know how they fit.

Erin Wasson is rocking one of our favorite year-round wardrobe staples in the new Zadig & Voltaire spring 2012 campaign shoot: white denim cut-off shorts. She also wears a pair of coated metallic jeans. She’s styled in sheer button-down tops, slinky metallic knits, and basic tanks for a look that’s casual-bohemian and totally luxe. Watch the making-of video below.

Love Agave Denim’s spring 2012 collection? So do we. And we’re psyched to be able to share this exclusive sneak peek at the inspiration behind the line. Husband and wife team Jeff & Lauren Shafer took their inspiration palette from the Sea of Cortez and trips they made to Baja in the ’60s and ’70s. The colors, textures, and shapes on the mood boards below were transformed into the spring 2012 line.

Agave Denim is coming back strong for spring in both the men’s and women’s lines, with their signature rich colors and innovative denim fabrics (remember their gorgeous fall 2011 line?). Husband and wife team Jeff & Lauren Shafer took their inspiration palette from the Sea of Cortez and trips they made to Baja in the ’60s and ’70s. The dream vacation inspiration shines through in delicious hues and resort-esque styling. The “West Coast Luxury” motto of the spring line leaves behind age restrictions and trend-chasing for something more universally applicable (and appealing): “ones inner confidence and ability to enjoy the simple beauty of life.”
They source only the finest Japanese, Italian or USA-made Supima cotton denims and luxury fabrics and work with select boutique mills to design exclusive fabrics. With Jeff’s denim-obsessed eye for unique, high quality textiles and Lauren’s intense pattern making background and precise fitting fanaticism, the two of them have created a line that redefines the spring wardrobe (or maybe just reinforces what it should have been all along).

Levi’s isn’t just using vintage-inspired looks for its Spring/Summer collection this year, they’re literally copying and remaking pages from their previous collections — some as far back as the 1930s! They’ll be giving us all-denim ensembles, raw-looking, loose fits for men and women, and, of course, the ever-present denim trend of the season: overalls. So, guys, order some suspenders; girls, start looking on Etsy for handmade denim hair bows, because this is HAPPENING.

1. We love the David Kahn Spring 2012 video lookbook (it helps that Lana Del Ray’s “Video Games” is our favorite song right now, but the clothes are beautiful too).
2. MiH Jeans made a little tribute post to their recent muse Ruby Aldridge, who has modeled in the Resort and Spring 2012 lookbooks. Check out MiH Resort 2012 and MiH Spring 2012 if you missed ‘em.
3. The Denim Guy posted up some PROJECT NY snapshots—check them out! And while you’re at it, check out the official PROJECT NY wrap-up video.
4. Is it time to wash your jeans? Rawr Denim posted an in-depth guide to when/why/where/how you should wash your raw denim. Remember: it’s not as simple as waiting 6 months! For instance, when you get dog crap on them, all bets are off.
5. Two Rawr Denim links in a row? You bet. These brand new Evisu “Year Of The Dragon” jeans are probably a challenge to style in an non-ironic way, but we still have a serious denim crush on them.
