Denim News: ACNE Opens in London

acne-opens-in-londonI guess the economy hasn’t hurt ACNE too much?  It’s pretty exciting to hear that one of my favorite denim brands is growing and expanding.  Too bad I’m not in London.  I would love to see this new brick and mortar shop, complete with furniture and other inspirations that represent the diverse artistic interests which come from the brand’s creators.

From Fashion United:

The new Acne store in the capital’s Dover Street will open today with the latest aviator-inspired AW10 collection and sneak previews of the staple piece of the season being their shearling jacket. The Swedish label Acne, standing for Ambition to Create Novel Expressions, is already a big hit in London (we can get our hands on the cool brand at Browns, Liberty, Matches and online) but the anticipated concept studio spread over a five storey townhouse in the heart of London was news that sent fashion insiders into overdrive.  Click to read more…

Denim Deals: A/X Armani Exchange Denim Chill Truck

Armani Exchange has kicked things up a notch to revive the brand.  Besides throwing huge celeb-studded parties to promote their new Neon Sun sunglasses line, there’s a roving ice cream truck (which looks like a taco truck) that shares frosty treats, giveaways and, of course, deals on denim.  Fun!  The truck had been cruising around Los Angeles this past week.  Keep your eyes and ears open, because the A/X Denim Chill Truck could be rolling down a street near you.

Denim Desires: JAMES JEANS Kate Crystal Trench Coat

What on earth would I want with a trench coat when it’s about 100 degrees in the shade?  Somehow, even in the current heatwave of summer, James Jeans has managed to capture my attention with the Kate Crystal denim trench coat.  I like the slim sleeves and trim tailoring throughout.  Could this be an addition to my new fall wardrobe?  It’s only a few months away.  It’s always good to be prepared for a sudden cold snap, right?  It’s so dark blue.  It’s on sale.  I can picture wearing it with a pair of white jeans.  Or… white denim leggings!  Dare I?

Report Says Women Own More Jeans Than They Need

First, I thought owning seven pairs of jeans is sort of on the low side, at least for a SoCal West Coaster like me.  Living in Los Angeles, wearing jeans is sort of the default uniform of choice.  To be honest, I currently only wear less than half of my collection of jeans, because the rest doesn’t fit at the moment.  I’ve even known people — who don’t normally prefer jeans — wear them so they could fit in.  I kid you not.  Besides, who needs that many jeans?  It’s not about the need.  Am I right,  ladies?

From The Fashion Bomb:

Consumer Reports/ShopSmart recently conducted a survey that found that the average woman owns seven pairs of jeans, but only wears four.

The survey went on to find that, “only one in 10 women is willing to spend more than $100 on a pair of jeans, while the average price they pay hovers at $34…

Street Style: Denim Looks of Berlin Fashion Week

Images via

Images via

Thanks to Berlin Fashion Week, along with the usual suspects who clutter Friedrichstrasse on any given day, some interesting denim ensemble interpretations came out of the woodworks. You’d think the fashion sideshow would be seen on the street.  Instead, bald female models sporting fuzzy beards were seen on the catwalk at Patrick Mohr.

One thing I did notice in Street Style snaps, which seemed odd, too: men’s choices of footwear were questionable, while the shoes were the one thing that made the ensemble for women.  Denim hotpants were out in force with the ladies, while men wore jeans rolled up just high enough to tan their ankles.  And yep.  No socks.

Smells like Teen Spirit – Lacoste Live!

Lacoste Live, a new sub-brand of Lacoste, targeting a younger, more fashion-forward customer, will open 60 Lacoste Live stores, the first to open in early September at 134 Prince Street in NY’s SoHo neighborhood, replacing an existing Lacoste boutique. Stores will follow in international markets including Paris, London, Berlin, Zurich and Tokyo.

The Lacoste Live collection will be a more contemporary line with slimmer fits and edgier designs, such as optic prints and zigzag stripes on tops. Prices will range from $79.50 for polos, $88 to $110 for wovens, $130 to $175 for denim and $125 to $225 for jackets. In addition, footwear will be a key category in the new stores.

While the stores will open later this year, the first men’s wholesale collection for Lacoste Live will hit department and specialty stores next spring. Women’s wear under the new label will launch in fall 2011. Lacoste Live product will also be available in the company’s 67 U.S. Lacoste boutiques and on the Lacoste e-commerce site.

Denim Looks of Benetton SS2010

Sometimes, we move on too fast. Benetton was a great fashion staple for me starting in Junior High School, back at the height of color lust from teeshirts to wool trousers. Not forgetting what’s current and hot today, United Colors of Benetton have revamped their entire collection and have put a full collection of denim — front and center!  Look for denim jodhpurs, hot pants and men’s cargo bermuda shorts.

At one point, it seemed there was an e-commerce site for all things Benetton (not just perfume retailers).  Don’t count on it right now.  In the meantime, Benetton is on Facebook and Twitter, to keep you updated on the latest happenings.

Look for their latest collection of on-trend looks at a boutique near you.

From Refinery29:

When denim jeans first came onto the scene, they were dominated by dudes. Whether they were out on the farm, working the railroads, or cruisin’ on their Harleys, men were always the ones to don a pair of denim. Well, times have changed, and so has fashion—and jeans are no longer for the manly man.  Click here to read more…

Twilight Fever! ECLIPSE Jeans and Merch Hits Upscale Retail Chain

Oh, no, I’m not talking about Hot Topic or Border’s Books, or one of a dozen of online places to score your Twilight Saga merchandise.  Nordstrom, an upscale retail chain, has capitalized on Twilight Fever, and they are elevating the playing field to offer an exclusive fashion line for all the Twi-Hards out there.  Beyond the requisite “Team Edward” Boyfriend tee or burnout “I Heart Jacob” shirts, there are hoodies, open-front cardigans, dresses, tunics, plaid tops and get this: Eclipse stretch denim leggings!  I’d say, it’s Vigoss jeans-inspired stitching for the juniors set.  If that isn’t enough, you can buy your very own life-size cutout standees of Bella, Edward, Jacob or even Alice.  Don’t forget the makeup!  Who says your dose of Twilight Saga has to end at the theater?

Also check out: exclusive styling tips, video and downloads only available on Nordstrom’s ECLIPSE for BP site.
